I am moving in about a month and starting the packing process. Last time I moved I had A LOT less crap. Looking for some tips and tricks.

Re: anyone have packing tips??

  • Just leave your clothes in the drawers instead of putting them in boxes.  Same for desk drawers if you can take them out.

Use zip ties to hold all your hangers neatly together.

Start getting rid of stuff now!  Designate a giant box for Goodwill.

  • Loading the player...
  • Get boxes from liquor stores.  The ones that wine and other individual glass bottles come in are super b/c they have these great cardboard dividers that are wonderful for packing things like glassware, candle sticks, etc.

You can also get endrolls of newsprint from your local newspaper.  Sometimes there is a small charge for them (I've never paid much though), but I like it a lot better than using actual printed news papers b/c you don't have to deal with the ink getting all over your hands and everything else.

Good luck!  I absolutely hate, hate, hate moving...Yet we've done enough of it since DS was born that I should be an expert by now...I'm not, but I should be.  Smile

  • Buy a bunch of sharpies and more packing tape than you think you need.  I printed out "my name is" type labels for the rooms in the new house - dining room, master bedroom, basement, etc... and taped them down with packing tape.  This helped So much!

I used the many many sharpies to write down everything that I put in the box.  This was a pain then, but fabulous once we moved.  I took a huge duffel bag and filled it with hangers.  Know where your hangers are.  The duffel I used was bright blue and green, very easy to find.  I also used a suitcase and a bright yellow duffel to pack the "day of" supplies.   TOILET PAPER goes in those bags!  Sheets, towels, clothes... I also made sure to mark a box with my daughter's favorite toys/books.

The day we moved,Em was 16 months or so and VERY sick.   miserable cold and she just wanted to nurse all day.  Being this OCD organized saved my sanity!

Oh and the night before I bought a bunch of water bottles for the movers.  They really appreciated that,

Once you move and get your brain no straight save boxes!  We had some of those tall wardrobe boxes for lamps and whatever else was in there and Em loves playing in the "tunnels".  We set up a bunch of open boxes and she would crawl in.   And a big broken down box is fabulous with crayons or paint.
