TTC after 35

My follow-up visit

DH and I had a good follow-up visit with our RE today.  I had a saline sonogram which gave me cramps but it went well overall.

Dr Chen told us that DH's sperm is great yay!  We were also told that my uterus is in great condition - yay!  My FSH count is 17.6 but my Dr. recommended that considering our overall health, we try a round of IUI and see what happens.  Fortunately, our insurance covers everything for the IUI.  At this point we don't know how much will be covered for the fertility drugs but we're not worried about it.

On September 6th DH and I go to the IUI class and I'll probably start the round of shots the following week.

We left the office in a hopeful mood, much better than the feeling of dread I came in with.  I thought for sure my FSH level was going to kill our chances. Also, the earthquake happened just after our arrival.  DH felt it as did many of the office staff, but I was way too nervous about the visit to feel the shaking, LOL.  I asked DH if the quake was a good or ill omen for us.  It turned out to be good.

Thanks to everyone for your good vibes and well wishes today. As always, I cherish your unfailing support. I'll keep you posted about our course of IUI.

Re: My follow-up visit

  • I'm so glad to hear that your RE was positive.  I know for me-finding a RE that is that way has been a challenge.  I hope that your IUI goes as planned and that you have a BFP in the end.  Glad that everyone is ok after the earthquake.  I've never felt one, and hope that I never have to.  Although DH wants to experience an earthquake.

  • So glad that it went so well for you guys today!  And even more important that you're ok after the earthquake! Could you imagine if you had been in the middle of the procedure when it hit?  And I bet DH is on cloud 9 that his tests came back good!  So happy for you!!!!

  • Melissa -- I saw in the intro posts below that you are in NJ -- are you going to Valley Hosp?  I see Dr. Nasseri there, but Dr. Chen did my hsg and seemed really nice.

Glad to hear you had a positive experience. Good luck!

    Hi ELF,

I'm at St. Barnabas in Livingston. Dr. Chen is so nice and we feel super lucky to have her as our RE.  I'm glad you had a good experience with her.

  • Awesome! We got the same news today! But Im with RMA in NJ. Proceeding with IUI. Our insurance covers them, the meds came out to be around $500 but they had a coupon that lowered it to $300, but I can submit it to my husbands next to lower that. Without prescription inurance they would be $2k.

Oh, how funny -- there must be two Dr. Chen's who are RE's in N.NJ.  The one at Valley is a man.  Wonder if they are related!  LOL

  • Congrats on the very hopeful results and future plan! I am happy for you. Have you read anything about wheatgrass to lower FSH? I suspect I might have highFSH due to a borderline high back when TTC #1 4 years ago. Getting new bloodwork next cycle. Anyway there really are no side effects so i thought what the heck I'll try it. It has helped a lot of others so i figured i would mention it if you were interested. Good luck with your IUI! :)
