Trying to Get Pregnant

Oh clomid...any users or previous users?

My doctor decided to prescribe me clomid today since my cycles have been all over the place and this month I'm on CD 17 and, after an ultrasound, she says I'm still probably 4 to 5 days out from ovulating.  I'm relieved she's putting me on clomid next cycle, I think that will make me feel like I have a little more control over this, but I am curious, to any ladies on here who are or have been on clomid, have any of you had any success with it in the past?  And is there anything I should be prepared for?

Re: Oh clomid...any users or previous users?

  • Are you seeing an OB or a RE?

    Will you be monitored?

Will you being doing IUI or TI?

Will you be using an hcg trigger injection to stimulate ovulation?

~after 34 cycles we finally got our 2nd little bundle of joy~

  • Make sure you're properly monitored while on Clomid as it can have some pretty nasty and lasting side effects. Did your doctor say why he/she is putting you on Clomid if you O on your own? If you ovulate on cycle day 25 or before, that's still completely normal by most standards.

ETA: If you want info on monitoring see the "Treatment" section: https://mrs-slick.blogspot.com/p/infertility-basics.html

I'm currently just seeing my ob/gyn.

I'm not quite sure what kind of monitoring you're referring to (sorry still learning) but we are schedualing appointments for about every months right now unless something comes up.

It's just going to be clomid with TI

And as of right now there is no trigger injection.

You should be having an ultrasound on CD3 to check for cysts and run blood tests.

Then you need to be seen again starting around CD10-12 (depending if you take Clomid on CD3-7 or 5-9) and then every couple days until you ovulate.

Have they done an HSG? Semen anaylsis? Basic blood work?

    What she said.

Or you can check out the link I already provided and read from "Testing" on.

Sorry I think my wording may have been off...It's not just been this month that I've had an irregular cycle...it's been quite a few months of it being all over the place and this is what she's recommended. I'm not a patient person by any means but I wouldn't be thinking about clomid if it was only a couple of irregular cycles.

Yes they've done all of that and everything has come back fine.

Impatience is not a fertility issue.

I didn't say it was, thats why I said that I realize I'm not a patient person, but I wouldn't be considering this if it was only a couple irregular cycles. This was something my doctor brought up to me.

  •  I can't stress all of the monitoring enough.

Clomid without an HSG is stupid and a waste of your time because if your tubes are blocked, it doesn't matter if you ovulate.

Also, this is my first month of Clomid and I experienced the following:

I had a 1.6cm cyst that Clomid and an HCG trigger could have made larger if it was not monitored.

My lining was entirely to thin to even support implantation if fertilization is to occur and I needed to be on estrogen before ovulation to build up my lining.

I never received a positive OPK, even after an ultrasound showed I was about to ovulate. If I didn't have the ultrasounds, I would have thought Clomid didn't work.

  • I'm on my second Clomid cycle (we have been TTC since June 2010 with no luck) and I ovulate on my own.

I have u/s on CD 10 (and everyday until folicles are ready) and then get HCG trigger shot.  I then go back for follow up u/s a few days after O to confirm that I did infact O.  I used OPK's last month and did get a + two days before FF confirmed O.  I also temp.

I take my pills at night bc it's supposed to help with the side effects (you sleep through them).

I hope you talk to your doctor again about being monitored (regular u/s) as it is very important.

    GL.

After 15 cycles and 3 rounds of clomid (50mg) we got our BFP.

Lots of luck to my Golden Girls
