They were showing some live footage of times square being filled with people who have evacuated buildings. Weird to hear of a big earthquake anywhere but here in Ca.
So far, no major damage or deaths reported, so that is always good.
There was one on the Colorado, NM border yesterday. I didn't feel it but thought it was strange there would be an earthquake there. All this stuff freaks me out!

I'm in DC and felt it big time. I'm on the 11th floor. My desk shook, then the building starting swaying, and the lights flickered. My co-workers and I just stared at each other before deciding to evacuate via stairs. Everyone was out on the streets for a bit. Now we're back and everything seems fine.
I am a little scared about going to my car underground 3 levels in case there is an aftershock.

I didn't feel anything, people were comming up to me at work asking me if I felt the earthquake, I said "what earthquake" hmmm lol
I'm up in Maine and we felt it, it was enough to make our entire office sway! Crazy!!! If my coworkers hadn't confirmed it I would have thought I was nuts!

Dang! That was scary...felt it strong in DC. Now of course, it's a madhouse with traffic, no phone lines, etc!
Hope everyone else is safe and sound!
Hello, fellow Washingtonian! My cell service has been spotty. Our work lines were down for a bit too.
Hi there! I still can't get in touch with DS's daycare due to cell service being down. I'm starting to freak a little. I just now got in touch with DH in Bethesda! Stay safe and good luck travelling home! It's going to be an absolute mess!

How could you feel it way up there? 6.0 is not that strong, and maybe my geography is off but anywhere in Canada is too far away to feel it, isn't it?
ETA: Clearly I'm wrong, I wasn't trying to say I don't believe you I'm just so confused. I don't feel them when they're in other parts of CA a few dozen miles away so I'm shocked you guys are feeling a 6.0 so far north. Oh well. Hope everyone is okay!

I'm finding it incredibly ironic as a geologist that I move to Southern California and an earthquake happened where I used to live in Virginia (where we moved from to live here). My family in New England felt it too, though as a ~3, not a 5.9.
I was out running errands and came home to my FB being all lit up with news about it.

Its a combo of the type of rock over there, the depth of the EQ, and the fault line. I've also heard rumor of a smaller one in Albany, NY today (likely tied into the VA one)...which is a helluva lot closer to Ontario.
I can't believe you felt it all the way in Ontario! I'm in Connecticut and didn't feel it, but know other people in the area did.

I live in Albany NY and we felt it here. At first I thought I was having a dizzy spell, till someone told me that it was an eathquake! We had one last year too which I think started in Canada somewhere?

Felt it in Raleigh NC too. And I too thought I was going crazy! I live near RDU so I thought a plane had crashed.
