  • Ha...I don't know anyone by that name, but every time I've seen it typed I've pronounced it "rise" in my head.  Glad I didn't make that mistake to anyone but myself.

  • I  read it as "Rise", even though I knew it was wrong.

Reese is a unique enough name as it is, it doesn't need the spelling to be unique too.

Rhys is the original spelling of this name-- it's Welsh. Typically, Rhys is a boy's name, and Reece/Reese is more common for girls.

If it's being considered for a boy, Rhys is the only way I'd go.

May be the original spelling, but many, many people besides me will read it as "Rise" or "Riz"... I promise.

People don't care what the original origin of a word is. They just see it on paper and read it as they see it.

I knew a boy named Reese, spelled Reese. Noone thought it was wierd.

IMO, Reese looks too feminine for me. That's why we went with the original spelling of Rhys. To me, it looks better.

  • Rhys is the spelling commonly used in the UK and other areas of Europe, so just because some people in America have to spell it more phonetically doesn't mean everyone will. Think Rhys Ifan, the funny roommate in 'Notting Hill', or Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who played King Henry in 'The Tudors'.

This. It's on our list of names and if we choose to use it, it will be spelled Rhys. I just wanted to be sure that I wasn't mistaken in that the spelling is pronounced "Reese" My middle name is La'Rese so I think it would be nice to give him a little part of my name. I know people will mispronounce it but I don't mind correcting. I correct people with the pronunciation of my name every single day ;)

The first time I saw this name I read it as "Reece".  To me it looks nothing like "Rise" or "Riz".

We are also considering this for a middle name.  I've always liked it for a girl or a boy.

Yep.  It's what we plan on naming our son and we are spelling it Rhys.

  • Rhys is pretty common.  I can't imagine that many people would mispronounce it.  I like traditional spellings so I wouldn't spell it any other way.  I also happen to be Welsh so I really like it!

  • I've never seen Rhys until recently and think it's a cool name. I too was pronouncing it as "rise", but "Reese" makes more sense.
  • I only know how to pronounce it because everyone on the baby names board is in love with this "original" spelling. It looks like "Ris/Riz" to me. I prefer Reese=girl; Reece=boy.
