At my appt today, my doctor (who I really like) had a resident with her for the day. The resident came in first to talk for a few minutes while the doc was finishing up with the last patient. She said "Oh, I see you're going to try for a TOLAC" in this kinda off-handed, "oh that's so cute" sort of voice that made me want to smack her upside the head
A) Yes, I understand what you mean by TOLAC, but I"m sure not all people would.....so please don't try make yourself sound smarter than me by using obscure acronyms.
I'm not just going to "try" a trial of labor just because I think it sounds like it would be fun. I have well thought out reasons. And your professional organization ACOG apparently agrees with them, so this isn't just some cute girlish whim, thank you very much.
It makes me wonder what they are saying about VBACs in med school if this 26 year old girl seems to think it's so cute that I'm going to "try" one!
Re: mini doctor's appt vent!
"Smudge's Story - How to Grow a Dandelion" will return soon!
The Dandelion Archive
"If dandelions were hard to grow, they would be most welcome on any lawn."
Even worse than residents is the way drs act when they have a resident.
Ugh ugh ugh.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that dislikes residents.
During my failed induction, I had a very unpleasant experience with a foley bulb and two inept residents who treated my cervix like a science experiment (all the while commenting on the blood, how they couldn't see and how they thought they needed a different size, etc. etc. while telling me to hold still during contractions...... um..... sure.)
Maybe I should give this resident the benefit of the doubt, but her tone totally irked me.
Am I missing something? It sounds like she was making conversation about your birth plan...you ARE trying to labor after a c-section, right?
Maybe her delivery was off to you, but she probably doesn't have a ton of experience. I wouldn't have thought twice about it/
It was her tone that irked me. I know her actual words were harmless. Like I said in the previous post, I have some baggage with residents...
I'm trying to give her the benefit of the doubt and I promise if I see her in labor I won't bite her head off, but I just needed to vent.
