Infertility

OOP

My current insurance provider through my company pays 50% of select IF treatements.  They do not pay for IVF or IUI so we would be paying OOP.  Should I switch to a different provider who pays toward these treatments before starting IUI and possibly even IVF?  My husband owns his own company and we could switch from my company provider to a private business owner provider, but I am not sure how to get the process started?  Any advice is appreciated.

We did a round of IUI OOP because our plan at the time didn't cover fertility treatments. It came out to be about $800 or so, and it will depend on how much monitoring you need.

  • Very, very few plans open to small business owners will cover IVF.  At least in my state (and OH is one that mandates some IF coverage).

MH is self-employed, too, and there is not a single plan we can get with any IVF coverage.  I've worked with two different brokers to confirm this.  Meds or IUI might be covered under different plans, but I haven't found one yet.

If YH owns a larger business or things are different in your state, it's possible.  But don't get your hopes up.  Sorry to be a downer.

This is pretty accurate here in FL too! I used to sell health insurance and there are absolutely NO plans available to businesses who employee less than 50 people that have any IF treatment benefits in our state.
