Pregnant after IF

who just felt that earthquake?

A 5.8 magnitude quake hit in Virginia.  I'm in NJ and our whole building shook.  Crazy.

Anyone closer to the epicenter?  Are things ok down there?

Edit: I'm a geologist and feel compelled to post this as well.  Help out science and take a minute to fill out a 2 min survey about what you felt in the EQ.

Re: who just felt that earthquake?

  • I have seen friends update from Cleveland, Philly, and New Jersey that they all felt it.  Crazy how far out you could feel it!

  • I felt it - home on bedrest and my whole house shook! I thought I was imagining it, then looked over at my water glass - the water was shaking like in Jurassic Park.

Crazy. Hope everyone in Virginia is ok!

It is still crazy to me that some people have never been in an earthquake. Maybe becasue I live in CA and we get them all the time!

  • I felt it and I'm in Michigan. It was so weird because I was sitting in my office and it felt a little like the room was spinning and I thought, oh I hope I don't pass out or something, haha! I then went down the hall and a bunch of co-workers were talking about feeling it too.

  • It's a little funny to me how this has become such huge news when to us (in CA) a 5.9 is barely anything.  I guess we've just become so jaded that we don't react to anything under a 7 or 8.

LOL, it's like how Northerners feel when Southerners freak out over an inch of snow... or how East Coasters feel when Californians freak out over a rain/thunderstorm!  ;)

  • I am in Virginia and on the 15th floor. It shook pretty good, and even though I went through earthquakes before, this one scaredme because I wasn't expecting something this strong in this area. Gave my poor baby a pretty strong dose of adrenaline:( but we're ok. Now if I could make it through DC traffic...

  • I'm in MD and felt it.  It's the first time I've ever felt an earthquake... it was crazy.  I just feel bad for the kids that started school today.  Imagine having to evacuate because of an earthquake on your first day back!

My coworkers stuff fell off her shelves and a light broke.  When I got home a vase of flowers (dried) had fallen as well as our wedding album off a shelf.

  • We felt it at work here in southcentral PA.  We felt our building shake.

  • I was at work, about 40 miles from the epicenter.  It shook the hospital, work, really well, but absolutely no damage that I know about.  There was a suspected gas leak, but not certain of the details or anything.  We didn't evacuate (thank god) or anything like that.  At home, another 15 miles away from epicenter there's absolutely no damage that I can see.  The kids at my son's daycare didn't even wake up.  It was enough to be scary for us east coasters but I think that's about it.

I definitely felt it in NC, and I said the exact same thing -- the baby got a little shot of adrenaline there for a minute!  Glad to hear things are OK in VA.
