Yikes...that was the first earthquake I've ever felt. Any other east coasters feel that? I'm on the 32nd floor of my building and did NOT like the swaying. Kinda crazy!
I'm about an hour out of DC and we definitely felt it here! 5.8 Originated in VA, so far felt up to NY but Ontario! too bad it didn't shake this baby out!
I'm where PA/MD/DE all meet and we felt it. The whole hospital shook At first I thought it was construction (they tend to shake my office a little) but the whole room shook and my computer monitor went crazy. Pretty stinkin' scary, I can't imagine being down in DC or VA!

I felt it too, I'm in NYC. DH was evacuated from his building in NJ. I have to admit, I'm a bit shaky right now. They're telling us we're safer in the building.

I am in Clayton, NC just outside of Raleigh, I was taking a nap, and woke up to the floor shaking. I was yelling at the dog to stop scratching, and then realized she was sound asleep....freaking earthquake!! I just spent 10 days in CA, and then fly back to an earthquake...crazy!!
Felt it here in nothern Connecticut. The blinds in my office were swinging, that's about it. My sister says she felt it all the way in Portland, Maine.
CNN is reporting that the Pentagon is being evacuated and parts of Manhattan.
I'm about 75 miles from the epicenter....my entire house was shaking, the trees were shaking, not gonna lie, I totally panicked. I hope everyone's ok! I can't get through to anyone in family except through emails, thank God for my blackberry!

I have NEVER heard of earthquakes on the east coast. I didn't even realize that we got them in Canada until I was 15 or 16, and in BC. I thought they were strictly a California thing. At least as far as North America goes.
Now I feel dumb

I live just outside DC in Maryland. I had never felt an earthquake before. At first I looked around to see what was making me feel like the floor was shaking and then it just shook harder and harder. The whole house was shaking. A few things fell off the shelves, but that was about it. Really scary.

I felt it! I was at work resetting a table and sat down in a chair to flip open the sides of the table (turning a square table into a round table) and I felt vibrations under my butt and then sent back up to the font and my drink cup was on the floor (it was sitting right on the edge of the counter anyway).

I live in the Northeast part of PA (Luzerne County, and 30-45 mins from Wilkes Barre) and totally felt it! At first I was thinking the cat was under the couch bc that was all that was moving....then the whole house started shaking! The dog seemed confused and the cat was on the barstool at the counter. I thought earthquake right away and txt'ed DF but I thought that it was maybe only our local area that it was felt in....Boy, I was wrong LOL!
Alot of major office buildings and government buildings are being evacuated as a safety precaution. Talk about scary!

Welcome to my world. I live in CA and HATE earthquakes with a passion. So sorry you're all shaken up. It super scary when the ground moves around at all....plus 5.9 is pretty big.
I'm in Southern CT and felt nothing. My DH works about 10 miles away and he did. He IMed me right after and asked if I felt it. I was like WTF are you talking about. This is only the third CT earthquake I can remember and I didn't even get to feel it.

The closer to the River you are the more likely you were to feel it. I felt it in Northern CT. I'm right near the River too.

You must be right by me. I felt it at work and when I got home, drawers were open and things had 'walked' all over the place.
Earthquake was my last thought when it started. After I eliminated everything else (in like 5 seconds), I ran to the basement to grab DS. He was already half way up the stairs. I've been through tornados, hurricanes, and now an earthquake.
Re: Earthquake!
Ok, I'm all the way up in Ontario but I JUST texted DH telling him that the house was moving.
It felt like I had climbed a large tree on a windy day.
I lived in LA for 2 years and felt my first earthquake in NYC.
Way to fail, LA...

I'm in Pittsburgh and we felt it here. Our whole building was evacuated. Once things started creaking I ran out of my office!
So crazy!
Yay for another Pittsburgher! I live south of the city and definitely felt it too!
I'm in Boston in a high rise and didn't feel anything. DH's office is also in Boston, but he's closer to the ground and says he felt it.
