Wait, how long ago did this happen? Like 10 minutes or so? There were somethings shaking here, but I thought somebody was walking heavy down the hall. Now I'm wondering.

Yes about 10 minutes ago. I thought the same thing. I was like, "Damn someone is walking really heavy!"

We had one a couple hours south of here last night, that supposedly people could feel pretty close to where I live (I don't know, I was passed the eff out LOL).
We just had one here in NJ too, they're talking about it on the radio. Said it was a small one. Sounds like it was more the lower middle and bottom portion of the state. I didn't feel anything, but then again I wasn't paying too much attention as I was with a patient.

I don't know how you California girls do it. I am shaking.
LOL. In my 40 years of living here in "earthquake country" (and yes, I actually took a college class called that), I've only had a single picture frame fall off a mantle. I've been right on top of a 4.0 epicenter and that scared the bajeebus out of me - talk about feeling like your house got picked up and dropped back down.
I don't get how people live with tornados. Those look soooooo scary and destructive to me.
Ok, whew. I couldn't tell whether it was an earthquake or something scarier. We live close to a military base, the pentagon, etc and I was having visions of catastrophe.
We're building a new hospital at my work... Until one of the other ladies said her kid 20mi away felt it, I was wondering if we'd had a building fail.
I can't reach my MIL and have no idea where my kid is. I'm not happy.
Yes, I can't get DH either. They said they are evacuating the White House, capitol and Pentagon. I just want to know what's going on with him (I'm sure he's fine).
The pentagon was just let back in. they're evacuating all the highrises in Richmond I think. The phone lines are a mess

DH finally got a hold of her, but that 10 minutes made me crazy. I hope you hear from your H soon.
communication is always a disaster after a quake because EVERYONE has someone they need to call.
Growing up we had an out of state # to call to check in: my Grandma. Apparently it was easier to call out of state. Not sure if that holds true in the world of cell phones vs. corded phones.

My husband is from Ventura County California and lost his apartment building in the (1994?) big earthquake there. And he says the same thing - earthquakes are no biggie, they happen all the time, but he freaks out at every tornado watch we have here in the Midwest.

I'm the same as your hubs. Earthquakes - meh. The idea of a Tornado or even a Hurricane scares the bejebus out of me. It's not that I look forward to earthquakes, they just don't phase me. They're over so quickly you can get on with the clean up right away.
--I didn't know your hubs is from Cali. I used to live about 3 blocks from the apt building that collapsed in Northridge in the 94 quake (though we didn't move to socal until 2002.)
We were driving during it and the only thing I noticed was my car slip in one spot, but I was driving on a bumpy road. Our apt, however, was trashed. DH has a large action figure collection and pretty much every single one was on the floor. Plus dvd shelves were emptied and a few other things fell.
Nursed without dairy, egg, soy, peanut, treenut, fish, shellfish or beef for over a year.
Currently tandem nursing dairy, egg, and shellfish free.

What county are you in or near? I felt it where I am and it scared this shiit out of me. I was taking a nap and woke up to the entire bed shaking like crazy. I seriously thought u was losing my mind!

Yeah, I just went into Jack's room and DH's den, they are a mess. Stuff fell all over the place. I'm really glad we weren't in either of those rooms when it happened, Jack could have gotten hurt.
That was my fear upon seeing everything. So thankful we weren't home!

Re: I'm pretty sure we just had an earthquake
That is one hell of a fault line.
And it woke my kid who had been asleep for 10 minutes and now he's giggling in his crib. This is going to be a long afternoon

That is so weird you say that! I'm in SC, and my desk felt like it was moving. When I looked up the blinds on our windows were shaking!

Latest earthquakes
Preliminary readings say it was a 5.8. Epicenter between Richmond and Charlottesville, VA.
