Moms of chubby babies come in

Is anyone else getting tired of the "aw, she's so fat" comments?  My DD is in the 77th percentile for weight, but only about 24 inches.  My H and I are pretty small and so is DD.  She takes approx. 29-30 ounces per day plus 1 tbsp of cereal for breakfast and dinner.  Does this sound like too much?  She seems happy and healthy so I don't feel the need to change anything but the comments are constant!

Re: Moms of chubby babies come in

  • I don't have a chubby baby, but she eats more than that, so I wouldn't say that's too much. She usually eats 30oz plus a jar of fruit in the morning and a jar of veggies at night. She doesn't have cereal, she never liked it.

    I married a ginger.

  • I get that pretty frequently too.  Doesn't bother me though.  I love baby rolls so I assume they do to and the comments are made with love.  My sister's 11 month old was even bigger than mine - super chubby.  As soon as she started crawling the rolls melted off of her.  I wish it were that easy for me.

  • I get that alll day long. And Luc eats a lot. He's always had a huge appetite. Right now he's taking down about 27 ounces and 3 meals per day. Each meal is about 6 tbs. and we are slowly cutting down on the formula because he's eating more and more puree. Our pedi has never said he's too fat, but our next appt is next week so we shall see.
  • DS was a chunkster until about 1 year old; DS is currently a chunkster.  Everyone's comments were nice, and mainly exclaiming how they just loved their chubby cheeks and chunky legs.  I wouldn't worry about it as long as your DD is healthy and your pedi isn't concerned.  Feed your DD when she's hungry so she continues to be a happy, healthy baby.  Smile

  • ME! H and I get really tired of all the comments. She's 20 lbs and just 25 inches, so the rolls pile on. Someone actually told me that her arms look like a balloon animal because of all the rolls going down her arm.

  • I get the opposite, My DD is tiny, she's still in 0-3 clothes and she's 5 1/2 months, she under the 5th percentile but gaining and growing so we and our pedi are not worried. She eats like a piggy though, 4-5 oz of cereal and fruit for breakfast and dinner and 5 oz of fruit and veg for lunch, plus 24-30 0z of formula a day.  She's happy and healthy, don't let dumb people bug you.

  • I'm always getting those stupid "opposite" comments: "Too bad you don't feed her!" "Oh my, she's starved!" etc etc.

My daughter is big, off the charts for her percentiles too, but she was only 6 lbs at birth so I'm glad she's gaining so well!

I don't let it bother me.

This.  I just think people need something to say and so they pick the obvious characteristic (chubby, small, lots of hair, etc...)

  • My kid is in the 94th percentile for weight, so believe me, you're not alone in the comments. He eats about 32 oz a day and he eats solids twice a day. He's very happy and healthy!
