Generic Formula?

I was wondering if anyone has used a generic brand of formula - like Target - and what your experience was like? I'm BF but use formula here and there. I can't believe how expensive Similac is but am struggling with switching to a generic brand.

Re: Generic Formula?

  • I didn't use generic but my sister did and had no problems with it.

  • If your not using it that often ask your doctor for samples. Mine used to give me tons that were closer to expiring. I guess no one ever asked.  You could also buy at a wholesale club and save up a few checks from the formula programs then it's much more cost effective.

  • We use the Up and Up brand at Target and it is basically the same was Enfamil/Similac. Saves us a lot of money!

  • We used Sam's Club brand and never had any problems. Saved a lot of $ too.

  • We also used Sams club formula to supplement with both kids. Formula is all regulated the same by the FDA so generic is equally safe as name brand. Kids never acted like they could tell the difference
  • We used Sam's as well.  As long as you stick with one, there should not be a problem.

  • I just switched to the Target from Similac and don't see a difference.

  • I used Walmart's parent's choice when the Similac was recalled. We never had a problem with it and it was so much cheaper.

  • We switched to Target after the Similac recall and had no issues. I think its all the same. Once you get over it, you feel like a real sucker for paying for the name brands. If we have another, it will be generic from the beginning.
