baby shower venue?

my friend who has graciously offered to host my baby shower is asking for suggestions of a venue other than her home (she lives in arlington, and i'm the closest one to her at about 30mins drive).

what are some inexpensive suggestions i can give her? i'd like to shoot for lynnwood, edmonds, mountlake terrace, shoreline area if possible.

 thanks!

  • Is there someone else who can offer their house to help? What about at your house, then you dont need to pack up everything and unload.

  • I just hosted an awesome shower at Anthony's Homeport (it's kirkland) but the room was no cost to rent and it holds a ton of people everyone was really great and they even let us do no host brunch and provide separate checks.

My shower was hosted at this really cute tea room in Mukilteo it's called the Willows Edge tea room  but it looks like it's closed now according to yelp; if you like the tea idea here is a link to others in WA state: https://www.teaguide.net/tearoomswashington.htm

Or any other restaurant or park.

isn't it seen as tacky if it's hosted at my house? i dunno, i feel awkward about it...i'm sure my friends would think nothing of it, but TK etiquette has killed me since wedding planning! Wink

my friend had said she didn't want to co-host with anyone, because she had a very bad experience co hosting my bridal shower and also another bridal shower she had hosted. she did another bridal shower before as a single-host, and she said it was the best-ever, and wants that experience again for my baby-shower.

oh that tea room would've been perfect! too bad it's gone now.

my shower will be in january, so an outdoor-park wouldn't work. and i'm uneasy about the restaurants because i don't want to ask people to buy food *and* bring gifts to a shower, and i definitely don't want my host to foot the bill. Sad

sorry, i'm at a total loss!

  • As long as your friend is sending the invites and it's clear she's the host, I don't think it's tacky at all to have it at your home.  Will you be okay with that though, as far as getting your place ready for guests?  I agree it's a great idea so you don't have to lug all your presents home, but just make sure it doesn't stress you out getting things cleaned up and party ready.  I know my place was a wreck in my 3rd tri.  Or maybe it'd be a good week to splurge on a housecleaning service right before the party.  :)

You could also check out the community centers in the area you're looking at too, they usually have rooms to rent for fairly cheap.  Mine was held at a community center and they provided the tables & chairs and let the hostess bring in food and beverages.

this is what i was thinking too, but i'm afraid of the cost......i'll look into the pricing.

    thanks!

  • I think you can rent the little community center/ boat house on Alki- good for largish groups.

St. Mary's tea room in Wallingford is a nice spot if it's very small group (say under 10).

Otherwise you might call a few restaurants to see if they have a room. I know we've had club meetings at places like Lombardi's and they are usually happy to let you have a room if people order from their menu.

  • Jennlin - I think it is fine to have it at your house as long as your friend is hosting it. Plus the best part is that you won't have to pack up your car with all your gifts, they will all be at your final destination.

My friend shower will be at my house. I am excited about it because my house is really the best spot for the shower (most space and central for everyone) and I don't have to go any where Smile

i would most prefer it at my own house because logistics-wise, it just makes sense. i just don't want it to seem gift-grabby/self-hosted though and i'm pretty self conscious about it.

i'm seeing friend tomorrow, so i will talk to her about it. thanks for the suggestions, ladies!

You can rent it, and you don't have to rent the whole thing (of course that means someone else may be there at the same time).  It's probably a bit expensive though; we had our wedding there and (it was a few years ago now...) i think for the minimum reservation length it's around $400 to rent the whole building, inside and out.
