    I am pretty sure it used to be # of replies and/or # of views, possibly which ever happened first.

    This.  I've seen them locked with 3 replies, and then have 300 and not be locked.  

    Mods have the power to lock posts, but like I said, it used to be after a certain number of responses/views it automatically locked.

    I think it is just age now that locks them - they have to be however old.

    And I don't think mods can lock anymore. At least I don't appear to have that power.
