I'm sure this is different for everyone, but... In the early weeks of movement (no matter when you started feeling movement) did you seem to feel a lot more bumping around in there when carrying twins than you did when carrying only one baby?
I'm asking this because I've been feeling movement for about 2.5 weeks now, and it is COMPLETELY different than when I was pregnant with DD1. Granted, every pregnancy is different, and a 2nd pregnancy can be way different, but this just seems so strange. It seems like I'm feeling things in different areas at the exact same time, and baby is still way to small to be feeling it in numerous places (at least I would think it's still too small.) My OB only does 1 ultrasound at 20 weeks, so we haven't had the opportunity to see what's going on in there yet, and I just have this gut feeling that there may be more than one - which I never would have thought of if not feeling seperate movements.
Any insight would be appreciated!
Re: Mamas who have carried both single babies and twins...
Actually, it was the opposite for me. More placenta=more uterus coverage and less feeling. I have di/di twins though.
I will say that it was unmistakable that I was having twins by about 12 weeks. My belly was just getting so much bigger than a singleton pregnancy. I know that isn't always the case though. My babies were 80th percentile this week at my 28 week MFM appointment and my fundal height is already full term.
I wasn't asked anything really about movement at my 16w, I did mention that I felt movement, but that was the end of it. Do you think you could maybe be feeling this one more just because it's the second one and you know what you're looking for and because it seems as though most things happen more promenent and sooner with 2nd pregnancies?
And to the other PP, both of our appointments where the doppler was used she picked up the baby's heartbeat as soon as it touched my tummy, so she didn't squish it around anymore to even have been able to catch another one (or my own for that matter.) Maybe I'm unaware of how easy it is to pick up a second baby's heartbeat, but I didn't think it would be in pretty much the exact same spot as the 1st heartbeat.
But I apprecaite all the feedback so far, and I suppose I'll have to go off info I get from others and wait it out til my 20w appiontment at the end of September!
FWIW, my doctor forgot I was carrying twins at around 20 weeks and only did the doppler on one of them. I was sorta taken off guard and didn't say anything. It is certainly possible to miss a second heartbeat with a doppler. For my twins, you have to put the doppler on two completely different areas of my belly to hear them.
Maybe you have twins or maybe you just have a little gymnast or ninja in there!
I wasn't asked about movement by my OB. I was asked by family. (they were using old wives tales to guess the sex.) More movement or less movement has nothing to do with first or second pregnancy. Thats sooner or later. I was saying I was able to feel, at 16w what I thought was one baby, in 2 completely different spots. And at my a/s which was my first u/s I then knew it was twins. And FWIW my OB used a doppler on me every visit and never tried to search for for another baby after he found the hb.
Have you not had any u/s yet? If there was one baby then it is pretty likely there is one baby now. Oh you can call and ask the nurses how high your hcg levels were when you had your blood work at your initial visit. Levels are suppose to higher for twin pregnancies. GL.
We only get one u/s at 20w, so I still have about 4.5 weeks til our one and only u/s. Also, I never had HCG levels taken. No doctors around here will see you prior to 9 weeks, and I was on vacay from 9-11 weeks, so my first appointment was at 12 weeks. They didn't take blood until my 16w appointment and that was just for the downs syndrome blood test (can't remember what it's actually called.) So unfortunately, I don't have much to go off of. I've only had 2 appointments so far, and both times they found a heartbeat so quickly they didn't move it around at all. I'll just have to wait to see whats on that screen at the end of September!
