Bedrest opinions

I'm just curious what your opinions are on bedrest after ET. My last clinic required 48 hours and this clinic requires none. DH wants me to go ahead with bedrest anyway but for various reasons I'd prefer not to. (it would require me to stay out of town and give myself the PIO shot- something I dread ever having to do). What are your thoughts on bedrest? We are doing a 3dt by the way. Thanks!

  • I was told to just go with normal day after ET. We do not do bedrest after having intercourse. Anyway, I never got to ET or ER. Good luck

  • I was told to take it easy for the day of and after ET. The first IVF ET I took it easy the first day, and not so the rest. For my success IVF, I put myself on bed rest (on the couch though) for 2 days. I've heard successe both ways, and RE's feel both ways! Good Luck hun!

  • My RE says take it wasy day of and then back to normal the next, no strict bedrest.  With my 1st IVF I took it easy the day of ET and went back to work the next day.  I regret it though, I had a very busy day at work and I felt overwhelmed and stressed.  That IVF didn't work.

For my 2nd IVF I was off (summer - I am a school counselor).  I rested the day of ET and the next day.  The first day I stayed in bed, the 2nd day I was on the couch and I waked around the house a little bit.  I took it somewhat easy the days that followed and then we went to the beach for a few days.  That IVF technically worked, but I had a c/p.  I am glad I rested and relaxed the day of and the day after though.  It made me feel better anyway.

  • I have one of the strictest bed rest recommendations that I've seen on the boards- 72 hours in bed, only getting up to go to the bathroom/get shots and sit up for eating. No showers/baths either.

Is it excessive? Probably. But I'm paying a very large amount of money for this doctor and I trust him to do the best for me. If he says 3 days in bed- then I'll spend 3 days in bed. I am not an RE and I'm not interested in managing my care. Advocating for myself (talking with the doc about what's not going to work for me and asking if there are alternatives) is great but when it comes down to it- I'm not willing to go against his advice and second guess myself later on. There's no loss to me if I do the full bed rest (I'm not missing work or anything important) though.

So my advice would be to talk with the doc and ask why no bed rest and your husband's concern.

  • My RE does not recommend bed rest. The last 2 cycles I did not, and have gotten pregnant both times. I've read that the embryo is like peanut butter between two slices of bread, the bread being the uterus. Meaning that no matter what you do, the embryo cannot fall out. I'm also a firm believer that nothing you do in the first trimester makes a difference, except the usual, no drinking, smoking, drugs, etc. My RE says it's all up to the embryo no matter what you do.
