pp hair loss

Anyone else experiencing this?  For me it just started within the past week or 2 and I am shedding like crazy!  It's kinda starting to freak me out, I am finding my hair everywhere and it is scary to look at my brush!

Any tips or advice?  Any vitamins/supplements to take that can help but won't interfere with BF'ing?

Re: pp hair loss

  • I don't know about vitamins or supplements, but I've started to notice hair loss this past week as well!  It doesn't help that DD has started grabbing and pulling my hair.

  • You didn't have it w/ your DS?

It's normal to leave small animals in the drain at this point :)

And there's not much you can do about it.  My Dad is a derm here in GR and he tells me that it's the natural progression of hormones after you have a baby. Our bodies hold onto everything it can when we are pregnant and that includes hair follicles.

I think last time it stopped around the 6 month mark, but then I was left with all of these wispy's around my forehead. Lovely.

  • Yeah I guess I remember it happening with DS...and I too have had the wispy "baby hair" around my hairline, I suppose now it's only going to get worse  Tongue Tied

  • Yep same here. I have been losing hair like crazy for about two weeks now. I already asked my doctor if there is anything I could do but she said it?s due to the hormonal change and she doesnt know anything that helps.

  • When does this usually start?

Does it matter if you are BFing?

  • mine's been going for about a month, I can't remember when it stopped with my first though. Here's a pic of me when my first was 14 months.  The things that kinda look like sparse bangs are my hair regrowth after the shedding.

    Not in my experience, no.

It started with both babies around 3/4 months.

  • Ugh! My hair has been coming out in hand fulls in the shower! Lydia will be 4 months old on Friday, and the shedding is STILL going strong! I have yet to see it let up at all! I hope it stops soon, I'm tired of cleaning the shower drain daily and sweeping the bathroom floor every other day. Not to mention I'm constantly picking my hair off of Lydia and picking it out of her hands. My hair and collar are the first things she grabs for when I pick her up.

I have to do that too since LO is such a sucker for her hands lately.
