I think they look amateur and cliche. And I know at least Sears doesn't require their photographers to have any experience at all.

Personally, I'm not a fan. I'm an ameture (and I use that loosely) photographer and prefer natural light photography. And they just seem so unoriginal and posed. Yes, I realize you're posing for a picture, but it just feels so forced and unnatural.
I had a coupon for JC Penny which is why I took DS. My total would have been $9 but I spent 25 to get a couple extra 8x10s and wallets for the grandparents and great grands. I would do it again for that price but never would I shell out big money there. I say only do it if you can get the pics for next to nothing.
DH and I wanted some 3 month pictures of Silas but were not willing to dish out the money for a professional photog. We decided to go to Sears, where we did get a few cute pictures, but nothing that blew us out of the water. We have already agreed that we will not be going back in the future.
