I want to get a blackout shade for LO's room, as he wakes up as soon as it gets light in his room (6am), but I don't even know what they look like. Is it a rolling shade? Can I get rid of the ugly blinds that are in there now? Do I have to go to a specialty store, or will home depot carry 'em?
Bonus points if you provide a PIP.
Re: Anyone have blackout shades?
I made some curtains with black out lining. I got the lining at fabricland, it's called "dark out", you can get "dim out" too, but as its name implies it's not as dark.
I have no idea about the shades though.
We went with the Levolor Cellular Shades with room darkening option available from Home Depot. They are custom-made, look great and really block out the light. Plus they look like a normal shade which was a huge selling point for us. I would recommend the cordless option as you can operated one handed (I lower them as we enter the room)

I can try to take a picture when I get off work for you
I got some at Target that are in Cayden's room. I was able to find regular ones that match his room colors too. They are just regular curtains but they are made out of a certain fabric that keeps light out and also keeps it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Supposedly they also help to keep sound out as well. The ones I got cost about 20 bucks total

I ordered some blackout lined curtains from Pottery Barn Kids

I got them in khaki, not the best match with the nursery but I needed them quickly. And they are so worth it, definitely has helped in the mornings and for naps.
We got these as well and they work great. (I also have brown darkening curtains I pull in front of them as well to take care of the tiny cracks of light that filter through on the sides
I have these too!! I LOVE them! They run about 50$ for the cheapest ones, which is what I have, and they work really well!!! We have them in every room upstairs and it's like night all the time up there. Plus, they are energy efficient! And cordless like pp mentioned. My cousins little girl got caught in a blind cord and nearly died, I will not have cords anywhere in my house!
