So I posted a few weeks ago about making LO's food - well over the weekend during naptime I made her first food - sweet potatoes. It was SO easy - just steamed them, pureed them (added a little formula for good measure) and put them in the freezer. I was so pleased with myself.
We don't plan on giving her solids for a few months but it was just fun getting started and knowing the process is really easy. We're hitting up the farmers market this weds on the hunt for some squash and other delights I can freeze. So much fun!
Re: Made LO's first food
I've been having a blast freezing stuff from the farmer's markets (I may have posted that in your thread.)
It's satisfying, isn't it?? It will be even moreso when you open the freezer and know you are feeding your LO fresh (well, frozen fresh
food that you prepared.
Are you guys using ice cube trays to freeze them? My husband and I were just discussing how I should stock up on stuff at the farmer's market next weekend and put it away, but I've not looked into it that much yet.
and a stupid freezer ?
Should I pop them out and put them in a ziplock bag or should I borrow my parent's sealer thingie majig? Will it get freezer burn?
Here's the guide I've been using for which veg/fruit to pick: https://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/baby-food-freezing-chart.htm
I love the farmers market - Lisa Frank you were my inspiration for going, so thanks!! LO and I have had a lot of fun looking at the fresh flowers and veggies. It's my mid-week highlight.
PFF - Yes I am using ice cube trays - they work perfect! And I pop them out into ziplocks, write the content and the date on them. From all my reading that is the way to go, no need to seal them.
That's my method too. And that website is the BEST...
I've moved onto this site for my DS: Wholesome Toddler Food
That page gets a bookmark! Thanks for sharing!! I love how it says "to please your budding foodie"
These two links are phenomenal - thank you so much for sharing ladies!
I do sooo miss the trips to the farmer's market! I'm back at work now and pleading the market's organizers for weekend hours! If that fails, I am looking into a CSA come Spring 2012.
I don't get on TB often, but when I do I hunt for goodies such as this thread! I love how it says "to please your budding foodie" too!
What are your thoughts on adding spices? I have a chef friend who did this...added a bit of garlic here, a bit of cinnamon there...and has seemed to work for LO in terms of getting used to the different tastes of spices.
