Weekly Daycare cost for a NB (esp. in-home daycares)

I'm wondering what you pay for NB care in your area and at what age does the rate decrease?

Also, if you don't mind sharing what type of info you sent with your LO or previously discussed with them.  As a FTM, I'm not sure what info I should provide besides emergency contact info and feeding instructions.

Thanks!

Re: Weekly Daycare cost for a NB (esp. in-home daycares)

  • We pay 200/week at a DC, think it goes down at 2 yr.
  • Loading the player...
  • Our licenced home daycare costs $150/week.  DS goes 3 days a week and so I pay $90.  She charges the same rate to everyone regardless of age.

Our DCP gave us a number of forms that we or our pedi had to fill out and turn in.  Other than that we provide diapers, wipes, breastmilk, bottles, and spare outfits.

  • For a reputable group daycare in my area, the prices range between $200/week and $266/week for the infant room. With all of them, you provide everything except toys and furniture; diapers, wipes, rash cream, blankets, crib sheets, bibs, extra clothes, bottles, formula and water (if you don't use tap water) or breastmilk. I'm sure I'm missing something, but that sounds about right. They all hand out packets that need to be filled out prior to admission (emergency contacts, daily instructions, medical info, etc).

I have no idea what in-home care costs are around here... except one. They charge $60/week per kid, regardless of age. When I drive past, the adults are outside smoking while the kids play in the small yard (townhouse development, teeny tiny yard). I only know the price of that one because they stuck a flier in my door. They're not licensed.

  • In home in my area for a NB is btwn $150-180.  The rate decreases at 2 or some say potty trained.

As far as emergency contact info licence in home & center day cares have a state form that the parent must fill out.  It is about 5 pages long.  It has doc contact info, parent contact info and emergency contacts with a bunch of stuff about shot records etc.

  • i was calling around looking for part time care only and celebree wanted 166 per week for two days care, in home day care usually runs 40 per day so 200 per week and it drops when they reach 2 yr old.

This makes me sad. Sad for the kids and sad for the parents who either couldn't afford better or are willing to put their child in this situation to save money. Any time a daycare is making their main selling point the price people should run.

  • I take DD to an in home daycare full time.  It is $32 a day and I love it!  The women only takes so many kids in certain age ranges.

She has an addition on her house that was designed and looks like a full service daycare.  She is also a retired teacher so there is structure. She has two assistants with all their paperwork.  She also provides a tax ID number for claiming daycare expenses.

I feel like I get the best of both worlds because it still has that homey feel but with a daycare atmostsphere.

  • I pay $115 a week for DD to go to an in-home daycare.  That is the price for all kids, price doesn't change for the age.  But I also live in a very small town, and it's mostly blue-collar workers....

I absolutely love our DCP.  When I first met her, I figured it would have been a lot more - I would have probably paid $150 a week or more to send DD there - but then we discussed numbers and I was shocked by how little she charged.  She has an impeccably clean home (cleaner than I can ever keep my home), a big fenced in yard with a lot of room for the kids to play, and is an all around wonderful person.

After sending DD there, to me I feel like she doesn't need the money, but does it because she loves it.  And I'm sure she does actually need it, but it sure doesn't come across like that because she is so wonderful with each child and truly loves what she does.  I honestly have no worries when DD is there; I know she is in great hands and will be very well taken care of.  It is such a relief to go to work and not worry about her.

As far as the info, DCP had us fill out some general forms about DD, and I just wrote up a small "cheat sheet" so that she could know a little about her.  I included how much and how often she eats, if it's OK to give formula if there isn't enough BM, how much mylicon to give her if she gets gassy, and just any little "quirks" that DD has.

  • Where do you people live!?!?!?  I'm SO jealous!!!  We will be paying $1035/month for DD daycare.  This was the best place in our price range.  The cheapest we found was $220/week.  However, when we toured it, we were not impressed and therefore went with the higher priced one.  I wish I could have $150 a week for a nice place!

  • We pay $285/week for a center and it's the cheapest place in our city by at least $100. It's still crazy, expensive, but we love it so it's worth every penny!

ETA: Rates go down at 18 months and we sent with her: 3 bottles (each day I bring frozen BM), a heavy and light blanket, 2 extra outfits, a paci, diapers, diaper rash cream and wipes. We also sent all the paper work that they mailed to us to fill out.

  • We are paying $1210 per month, so roughly $300 per week. It sucks but the cost of living is so high that we can't find any cheaper places without sacrificing quality of care.

  • We pay $185/wk for LO's full time DC center.  At 18 months you get a discount of almost 20%.  We had quite a bit of paperwork to fill out for us and her pediatrician, but it was all so worth it.  There were quite a few "what we need to know" forms to tell them any little details about G's day.  They also let us visit a time or two so I could see how she responded to the teachers and other kids.  It was more for me to see that she was totally ok with everything there, which she was.  I provide Diapers, Wipes, Changes of Clothes, Pack n Play sheets, Hats for Outside time in the stroller (they do 2x a day), 3 bottles a day, bibs and extra binks.  I get a daily report of what she did (which at her age right now is kinda repetative), naps, bottle times, diaper changes and the contents.  I absolutely love it, and so does she!!!!!!
