I work for the gov't on a contract basis, and my contract is getting ready to be renewed, I need some of your suggestions.
I just went into see my boss this morning, and while I was in there we had a chat about my job. He told me they're working on extending me, and he hopes to have it all wrapped up this week (YAY). They have money for me, but they're just figuring out which source it's coming from. PLUS, I'm going to pick up new duties as well, which is fine with me, as long as I have a job, I?ll do anything they ask of me. I was planning on telling my boss about the bean after my NT Scan on the 1st, but I feel so sneaky. Ugh. I don't want to tell him now because I want to secure this extension, but I don't want him to think I was being shady not telling him. I mean, I AM coming back to work after the bean arrives, there's no doubt about it. Thoughts? Feelings? Suggestions? Am I being bad by not saying anything?
Re: Moral Dilemma, and Job...HELP!
I wouldn't tell and don't feel bad about it. When you do tell him, let him know you waited because you wanted to make sure everything was ok and that you will be returning back to work.
I was just picked up by another Lab in the end of July knowing full well I was pregnant. But since I'm waiting till I'm 12-ish weeks to tell my other bosses I didn't tell the new one either. I too felt a bit sneaky and underhanded but at the same rate I want to be as sure as I can be that this baby is sticking around.
I am taking the "my comfort and whatever keeps my stress level down is best for me and the bean" approach to this pregnancy. I wanted to make sure I'd be getting 100% of my salary and not just 80%. You want your extension... kind of the same thing. So don't feel bad not saying anything till you feel ready to tell them. If they ask why you didn't speak up before just be honest (for the most part
) and tell them you wanted to be sure this kid was sticking around.

Agree. Even if he's annoyed, no one can really blame you for not saying anything. It's totally within your rights, even if you were 39 weeks pregnant, not to discuss it. Congrats on the extension!
