Did you cut out artificial sweetners?

  • Yes, 100%.  I wanted to do this for myself prior to pregnancy anyway, but now that I'm pregnant it's all the incentive I needed.

  • I hate water, and the amount of liquid I drink in a day would make me gain 40 lbs if I didn't drink some artificial sweeteners. I avoid aspartame, but realize it's in a lot more than I ever imagined. I use the Crystal light pure, True Lemon, and 4C Totally light. Those all have some form of artificial sweetener.

  • I stopped using artificial sweetners awhile ago because my doc and I linked them to my frequent migraines.  If you're going to cut out anything I would definitely cut anything with aspartame.

    The very first ingredient is Sugar (which is why there are 30 calories in one packet), but it also has Truvia, which is what's in the True Lemon drink mixes. The Truvia company is still arguing that it is "all natural," but it's still in debate.

  • Yes, my doctor is pretty easy going but this is one thing she feels strongly about so I trust her opinion on it.  It really isn't that hard to do.  You can have Splenda or regular sugar instead.

  • yup I cut it out last time too! I'm going to brew some decaf iced tea today at home and use either sugar or some agave nectar as sweetener. There are some juice pouches called honest kids which are all natural and are kind of like watered down juice and are pretty good. I also like all natural flavored seltzer.

  • For the most part, yes.  I've had a couple of diet sodas since our BFP, but I won't be buying any more now that we're out.  I'm not convinced that it would cause any harm, but I'm just not willing to take that risk.

    I am really, really missing my Diet Dr.Pepper right now.  I've tried the Crystal Light Pure drink mixes and I wasn't that impressed.  It had more of a tart tangy flavor that I didn't care for.  I think I'm just going to stick with water from now on.

  • I did, yes. But it was something I'd been thinking about before anyway. I was eating a lot of "diet" foods to lose weight, it took me awhile to realize low-cal didn't necessarily = healthy. Now I'm very conscious of what's in the foods I buy.

  • Every now and again I have a few sips of diet coke when my stomach feels weird. I'm really trying my best to cut them out.

  • I did too, and cutting Splenda was a little tough at first.  Now I just use a packet of sugar in my decaf coffee in the morning.

     errr... splenda IS an artificial sweetener too

     I have cut out for the most part, though one day last week I had a coke zero.

    I drink water, or half OJ half water.

    You can get sparkling waters/seltzer that have natural flavors in them so they aren't sweet, but they are a bit different to plain water at least.

  • I haven't cut them out completely but I have cut way back.  I still have an occasional sip of diet soda and I chew sugar free gum sometimes too.

  • I cut out aspartame and omg I had no idea that pretty much everything I drink had it in it....I am a bit of a diet pepsi junkie, and when I don't drink that I drink the Crystal Light drink mixes which also have it in there...I need to try these Pure things you guys are talking about. I've been finding myself drinking too much regular pop which I don't want to do!
