arching back and screaming/grunting

Ben has been arching his back and screaming/grunting for the last week or so. He's pooping, so it's not constipation- that was my first guess.

There just isn't anything you can really do to comfort him when he's like this other than nursing and sometimes he does it while he's eating so... yeah.

I'm probably going to call the pedi on Monday about this.  Just wondering if anyone can give some insight?

Re: arching back and screaming/grunting

  • Sounds like my baby, maybe his will help. https://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/56979202.aspx. My Madison is refluxy and growth spurting. I have to jiggle her and play white noise to nurse her sometimes. Other times she's good.

  • Arching the back and crying while eating are two tell tale signs of reflux. I'm not saying that's what it is, but it would be my guess.

  • Did you try the infant gas drops...I think it is Mylicon..I got the store brand and they helped my little guy.  Worth a try....

  • Just wanted to sympathize. Spencer was a grunter from the beginning, but I thought he'd grown out of it when all of a sudden (about 4 weeks or so?). bam, its back. (I have to say, this sound is nails-on-a-chalkboard to me, ughh, so I definitely noticed it was gone and has returned.) He stiffens out too, but doesn't scream, per se. The only thing that I see is that he *might* have a tooth bud, he chomped on a teether today for quite a while. Good luck, I'll be interested if your pedi has any advice.

  • Dee does this too. We asked the pedi about reflux but that's not it. We think it's gas and we switched her formula (she's FF) and it's gotten SO much better. She is also teething so that doesn't help and she periodically goes on "hunger strikes" as we like to call them.
