Should I get my mom a base for my infant car seat or a convertible car seat? Wouldn't a convertible make more sense because it can be used longer? She is watching DS two days a week. Thanks!
I guess it would depend on what her needs are...will she want to use the infant carrier to go to stores and such? That is really the only reason to use the infant carrier....
I'd go convertible. We still use the infant seat, but I don't carry LO around in it anymore. I wear her or use an umbrella stroller when we are out running errands. BUT, she is also not a baby that stays asleep and transitions in the infant seat. If your baby is, and your Mom plans on running out during naptime, etc then I guess that is something to consider.

I vote convertible. It will last a lot longer. She can always carry the infant seat if she needs something for errands (my aunt took ours in the trunk). Our infant also works without a base (chicco keyfit)-maybe yours does too?

This. My ILs bought a base before LO got here and if they had asked I would probably have told them to just wait and get a convertible. We have the keyfit and it can be used with just the seatbelt and a convertible will last much longer.

A base is really not that expensive. I say buy a base and use that for a few months, it will make it so much easier for your mom! You do not want to take a sleeping baby in and out of a carseat... and do you really see your mom using a sling with the baby??

My mom has the base to our infant seat that we rarely use because DH and I both have convertable car seats in our cars (he has read they are safer), IL's have a convertable seat in their van and my dad and step mom bought (eek!) an infant seat at a yard sale! They aren't allowed to use it.
