I just got my + yesterday and I am due April 2012, so I am reasearching the best hospitals and OBs here in Houston. We live near the Galleria and I am thinking about trying to find a Doctor at Memorial Hermann @ Memorial City because it will be close to both my office and my home.
Also, I am wondering about the Woman's Hospital and all of the other hospital groups in the med center.
We moved here from Chicago, so I don't know the reputation of the differnt hospitals here. Although, it seems like most of the options sound like first class facilities so I wonder if we could really go wrong?
Re: Best Hospital/OB in Houston?
Congrats on your pregnancy and I hope you have an easy, healthy 9+mos.
Women's is an awesome hospital. They deliver over 800 babies a month and, hopefully you won't have to use it, the best NICU in the city.
However, you really did hit the nail on the head. Any of the major hospitals in the med center or Memorial City will be great. One thing Houston has is good hospitals.
I delivered at MH- Memorial City in May. I had a fantastic experience and highly recommend my OB. Several other Nesties/Bumpies use him and you'll hear nothing but praise. His office is in MHMC and that's the only hosptial he delivers at.

I delivered DS#1 at Memorial Hermann- Sugar Land and also had a great experience, I just switched doctors between kids.
My sister-in-law is delivering at Memorial Hermann at Memorial next year. She works at their facility in the med center, but wants to deliver at the Memorial location. It seems like a good facility.
Woman's delivered both my boys. I had one visit to their ante-partum for an extended stay - that was good. I had my second boy in NICU - that was good.
St. Luke's, now TCH, will deliver my best friend's baby next year. That is another great facility.
It is nice to live in a city with so many good, solid places to choose from. Knowing what I know, I would look at their ante-partum, delivery, and NICU. You never know which things you'll need - but I think they're all good.
(I have also been to TCH's NICU - it is slightly different setup, but top notch like Woman's.)
Thank you so much. What a great pic of you and your little one!
I delivered at Women's - planned c/s. My OB is Dr. Firpo with OGA. I love her. I would change hospitals to follow her.
That said, I had a great experience at Women's and have no complaints. I recovered very well and had great nurses. Also, what Rayskit said is why I chose a dr who delivered at Women's even before we were TTC. They deliver babies. A LOT of babies. Made sense to me.
Woman's and MC are both fantastic! You won't go wrong at either facility!
Congrats!
I've worked at both!
Before I got pregnant I was seeing a doc at Women's/OGA and she was excellent. The only issue I had was the location was not ideal for me (I live in West Houston/Energy Corridor) and the wait to see my doc was always extremely long. It was so bad that I would literally have to take a half day off work for my appointments. I now go see a wonderful doctor at MHMC and will also deliver at MHMC. I see Dr. Erica Roberts who partners with Dr. Barbara Fogel. I absolutely LOVE Dr. Roberts! She is young but she is so kind and amazing and will spend as much time with you as you need. She also calls you personally, which I never got with my other doc. Although my doc at OGA was excellent, I always felt rushed with her during my appointments. I just went on my hospital tour at MHMC and I am very comfortable and confident in delivering at that location. Everyone has been so nice and helpful I'm sure it will be a good experience.
As already stated, you can't go wrong with either location. What you need to decide is which location will be easier for you to get to for appointment and delivery. For me, it was also important to be able to go to an office and not wait hours on end to see my doc and I also wanted a doc that would take their time with me and listen and answer any questions I had. Good luck in your search and congrats on your pregnancy!
This. If I were to have any more kids and he moved to Alaska, we'd be relocating.

I delivered at Methodist in the Med Center and had a wonderful experience. Every room has a jacuzzi bath which was soooo soothing for my almost 4th degree tears. They also have fancy schmancy suites if you want a fridge in your room or a DVD player and such (all rooms have CDs/tv/cable like any hospital room). Dr. Bobo is a popular OBGyn and delivers there. Methodist is the only Fortune 100 Best Place to work hospital in Houston and you can see it in their staff. It is also the top rated hospital in houston by U.S. News and World Report and the only to be named to the Honor Roll in recent years. So I think you should check it out.
That said, there are so many great places to have medical care in Houston you should do a tour at various facilities to see what kind of care best fits what YOU want to experience. At Methodist facilities, there are different practices. In the Med Center the baby rooms in with you (I think that is the same at all facilities). However there are nurses who specialize in caring for mom and others who care for the babies. At Methodist Willowbrook on the northside, there is couplet care where the same nurse cares for mom and baby. I think Methodist Sugar Land and West Houston operate the same as the Med Center but I'm not 100% positive.
I had a friend deliver at MH at Memorial City and had a great experience so since it is closest to you (and a heck of an easy place for visitors to find) you should definitely check it out too.
And as others have mentioned, Texas Children's in the Med Center is opening a birthing center soon - if I were expecting I'd tour that facility too. I'm very excited for it to open!!
Finally Texas Women's offers the most variety of birthing experiences based on what the mom wants (from what I have heard). So if you are a no-epidural, birth in a bath, etc. kind of gal, you should consider them too.

Dr. G also delivered my daughter. I love him and would also relocate to wherever he is if I ever have another baby. However, I did not have a good experience with Memorial City Memorial Hermann. Nothing good about it except Dr. G.
