My DH and I went on vacation with a bunch of college friends for a week. Two of the couples each had a baby; one was 15 months old, and the other just turned 2. I haven't spent a whole lot of time with kids before, so it the week was kind of scary. Every time one of the girls started getting cranky and crying, and the parents struggled to soothe them or distract them and how tired they all seemed, I kept thinking that pretty soon that will be me.. times 2! Yikes.. I don't know where I'll find the energy or patience. It was so overwhelming. Any reassurances out there?

Re: Back from vacation with 2 babies
kids are more difficult off schedule and away from their normal environment (home) in general. add in extra people, the energy to travel.. sometimes a vacation just isn't a vacation. i would guess that those circumstances came into play as long as the ages of the kids. in my opinion the 1-2 year stage is hard. not particularly independent yet mobile requires lots of parental energy.
you will be able to it, frankly you'll find a way because you have to. also, just accept that some days will be harder than others and hopefully you will have a support system that will help you out when you need a break to recharge a little.
i sometimes get nervous about adding twins to our family and juggling the needs of them vs. my toddler, but we figured it out the first go round and the good times far outshine the tough times or stress.
and if all else fails.. get some wine.

Yes it is! LOL (for me anyways). This was me a couple weeks ago. We went on vacation with my family and my sister has a 10 month old. All 3 babies couldn't have been worse. They all had colds, were off schedule, and the house wasn't child proofed. It was SO much work and I was so stressed the whole time. My brother and his wife are pregnant and I kept thinking we must be scaring the living hell out of them haha. All in all though, I actually did have a good time. Life is different after kids, They are a ton of work and can drive you crazy, but you will be glad you had them and won't be able to picture life without them.
When I was 6 months pg, a childhood friend came over with her 2 year old. He rand around like a crazy person for the 5 hours they were here.
I confided in my dh that I was FREAKED out, I couldn't imagine handling him, let alone 2 of him! WTF was I going to do as a mom of twin boys?
My dh told me, "they do not pop out this way. They pop out as motionless (though demanding) babies - and you grow with them. And we'll be fine. This is why you don't give birth to teenagers."
And it's true. And fine. And you'll grow with them, and be fine.
Traveling is hard with kids. I facetiously refer to a vacation we took with the twins at 5.5 months old as the 4 worst days of my life.
Yes, it is tiring to have twins, but it's absolutely doable and completely worth it. There are fabulous days and there are days where all 3 of us end up crying. Just like I'm sure there are days like that with one baby. I will say that I find friends with singletons to be a lot more reactive than proactive versus my MoM friends. Because I'm outnumbered all day, every day, I'm really big on a routine and making sure all of the babies' needs are met as a means of minimizing chaos. Friends with singletons are a bit of the opposite. They just do whatever and then react when someone is crying. So don't let this one experience freak you out too much.
This exactly!
