any experience w/ chicken pox?

DD has a several little blisters on her legs.  I thought they were bug bites, worried they might be bed bugs, but DH and I didn't have any so I figure they're bug bites.  I just looked up chicken pox and that is exactly what they look like.  She's had the shot and it says if you have the shot you get a mild case.  She has maybe 15 on her legs and just a couple on her arms.  The site said a few days before the break out you have a loss of appetite, which she did, but that they appear 1st on your belly and face, she doesn't have any there.  I know chicken pox is supposed to be very itchy but she doesn't seemed bothered by them.  Do you think this is chicken pox?  I've never had them so I have no clue.

Re: any experience w/ chicken pox?

  • I would have the pedi check it out. DS has a very mild case of chicken pox before he had the shot. They were only on his face and hands and never seemed to bother him. He never had a fever or anything! It wasn't until the pedi saw him that he said it was a case of "atypical varicella". Nothing you can do but wait, but it will be good to have it documented, especially since it was a vaccine breakthrough.

  • I've had chicken pox 3 times and it kind of sounds like it.  You really should have it checked out.  The second time that I had them, the pox started on my palms as opposed to my belly or back.  The first time I had them, they weren't very itchy (I had a really mild case that time) and they scabbed over very quickly.  You may also want to check out in her ears and mouth because pox can lurk there.  If it is chicken pox, you're going to want to contact everybody that she's been in contact with within the last week.  The virus is at it's most contagious just before the rash starts.

  • I would definetly have the pedi look at it. Our day care had a mild break out, The 3 older kids who are vaccinated got it, the 2 younger ones( my son and a little girl) who aren't vaccinated didn't end up with them.
  • LO was diagnosed with chicken pox today.  He has little pink dots all over his chest, diaper area, arms and legs.  He has a high fever and has had loss of appetite.

The doc at Urgent Care said he was 90% sure that is what it is, but since it is still in the early stage, he can't be 100% sure.  We will know in the next day or so.

Also, LO had the shot at his 12 month appointment

  • Your not supposed to get chicken pox from the vaccine, although it is possible two weeks after. Definitely go to your PMD. Dont forget its highly contagious by touching the blisters and even airborne from coughing and sneezing. Keep her away from EVERYONE!!!
