I've been a vegetarian for over 5 years... and even though I'm not even 5 weeks pregnant yet, all I can think about is a big juicy hamburger. This baby is a carnivore!
Should I give in and eat some meat??? WWYD?

Well, I guess it depends on why you are a vegetarian, how dedicated you are to it, and whether you'll kick yourself later if you break down and have a hamburger.
I was vegetarian for 2 years, and I stopped after I had been sick and the only thing that sounded good was Tyson chicken nuggets. I decided it just wasn't that big of a deal to me and started eating small amounts of meat a few times a week. Now I eat mostly humanely-raised meat, and that makes me feel better.
But remember, if you eat it now and decide you want to go back to vegetarianism later, you always can.
Funny! When I was PG with DS, I craved beef jerky - and ate it! I've been a vegetarian my entire life but for some reason, beef jerky was calling my name. I haven't felt that craving with this pregnancy, I wonder if I will..
I would not. I am a vegetarian of almost 10 years for ethical reasons. A craving would not be enough to make me give up something I believe that strongly in. Your body is perhaps telling you that you need more protein. Like pp said, try adding more protein to your diet and see if that cures it. Then again, if being a vegetarian doesn't really mean that much to you then eat a burger.
Lol?I?m not a vegetarian and I?ve been craving Morning Star Farms Breakfast Strips (Fakeon)! I say go for it. It may be that you just need a bite or two and you?ll be satisfied and then you can go back to being a vegetarian if you want to. It probably won?t the worst thing you ever do?and if it is then you are doing pretty good.

I am anemic and every time I am craving a hamburger/red meat it is because I am low in iron.
Try boosting your iron intake with greens and beans such as Kale, cabbage, broccoli, Lima beans, green peas, and pinto/black beans.
I was going to say this. You're probably anemic. Your first bloodwork will tell you!
I'd be careful eating meat for the first time after 5 years. Especially a hamburger. It may make you sick
You're right, I am definitely afraid of this. Thanks for the advice about the anemia... I should have thought of that! I'll try to boost my iron and hope my hamburger cravings fade into the distance...

I think this is quite common while I am not a full vegetarian I don't eat beef or pork products, I think this kind of craving is your body begging for iron, maybe ask for some blood work or find other places to get iron.

I know some people who have given in and had meat while pregnant because they were craving it and suffering nutritionally, then gone back. But if you don't want to just be conscious of your iron and protein intake like others have suggested. I always crave hamburger when pregnant, I think it's the iron.
My husband and I have only been strictly vegetarian for the past 4 months. I was wondering what would happen when I became pregnant. I was wondering if I would start to have uncontrollable meat cravings since I'm so new to being veg anyhow. Only time will tell, because I'm not having any cravings or aversions yet. This is a lot of changes all at once, I just want this appleseed to take root and be healthy so I don't want to beat myself up if I revert to some meat somewhere along the way.
eh I'd say go for it, but then I love meat and can't imagine giving it up. Right now I am actually LESS into meat than usual, and am often vegetarian for most of the day now. (I'm generally a meat with every meal kinda gal).
But hamburgers, yes I love hamburgers now. Mmm.

That sounds like me when I was a vegetarian--I wanted a hamburger for 7 years!
Maybe your body is telling you you need more protein--I'd just try eating more beans, lentils, almonds, quinoa, etc. to get some good protein first!
