Sex question (second time+ moms)

How long did you wait (after delivery) before you were intimate again with your DH/SO?

I'm delivering on Tuesday and I'd like to have sex tonight or tomorrow because I know it's going to be a few weeks before I'm ready to be intimate again. Poor DH :(

  • I haven't had my baby yet, but I think that you're not supposed to have sex until your 6 week follow-up appointment. The doc will check you and will either give a green light to start having sex again or will ask you to wait some more time.

  • 7 weeks. Initially I was only going to wait 6 weeks but at my PP check up I got the Mirena and they said to hold off one more week. I figured, whats one more week?

This time its seeming to be much harder. I think its because my recovery has gone so smoothly. My area feels completely normal again and my drive has returned as well.

  • For us, it was 2.5 weeks after. I had stopped bleeding for a few days at that point, which is a good indicator of the cervix being closed again.

I'm sure there will be a lot of women answering this, so: No, you don't have to wait 6 weeks - that is an old wive's tale :P

  • We waited 4 weeks after DS. With this one, we may try around 3 weeks because I had no tearing or an episiotomy(DS birth was a little more rough).

I am ready to be intimate. The last month or two of pregnancy I was in no mood for sex and the joints and ligaments between my legs hurt so badly, sex would have been extremely painful. It seems like it has been forever.

You and your DH can do other intimate things before you are given the all clear or before you are confident enough to try sex. I remember it being painful the first couple of times, but it seemed like the more we did it and the more relaxed I made myself(and we took our time), the better and easier it got.

  • With DD #1 we waited the full 6 weeks that the dr recommended. Even then it was a little painful. Shortly after things got back to normal. I can't even imagine it at this point yet, DD #2 is only 10 days old. We are definitely waiting several more weeks before attempting it!
  • minimum of 6 weeks. No it is NOT an old wives tale. The placenta leaves a large, gaping wound in your uterus...that if not 100% healed is extremely prone to infection.

  • We waited at least 9 weeks last time, but it was 5 months before it didn't hurt.  Indifferent

  • About 4 weeks with both DD's. However, DS is a little over 3 weeks old and we were intimate yesterday.

Hence waiting until the bleeding has stopped for a few days :)  For some women, that will take 6 weeks!

except stoppage of bleeding =/= healed. I shouldn't need to tell a nurse that.

  • We always wait at least 6 weeks so I get the go ahead from my dr.  NO orgasm for me or H is worth perminantly damaging my lady parts!  We do other things for each other until then.

  • First time - 12 weeks - my delivery was horrible and I was not up to it until then.  Second time just about 6 weeks.  You should generally wait for your doc's ok.  There's no magic thing that occurs at 6 weeks but you want to make sure you are healed.   As for the stopping of bleeding - with my first delivery, I didn't stop bleeding until almost 10 weeks.  With my second it was much quicker - probably closer to 4 - 5 weeks.
  • I am waiting until my Dr, gives me the green light.. But DH & I both are dying for some alone time.....
