We need to purchase a new vehicle and are looking to trade in our Chevy Venture. I kind of fell into driving a minivan. It was my company car back in 2004 and I bought it for dirt cheap in 2007 when I got laid off. I think I was the only person driving a minivan who had no kids and wasn't married. Oh well:) I've never really been car person. We need to trade in our Chevy Venture for something newer. I'd love to get another minivan but my husband thinks we should consider an SUV. I wouldn't mind an SUV but I'm not a fan of how some drive like a truck. I want something smooth that doesn't handle so rough. I also would like 3rd row seating that is easily accessible. I'm worried if we get an SUV it will be fine for 2 kids but I don't want us to have to get a different car in a few years if we decide to have more kids. Minivans just seem so easy to move around in the back and the stow and go seating makes me swoon. Do you have any recommendations for vehicles we should consider?

Re: Recommend your family friendly vehicle
Can't really help ya too much because I'm anti minivan with all my heart...I drive a Jeep Commander with 3rd row seating but it drives like a jeep (brick house on wheels). I'm also a jeep person so I tend to lean towards those as my recommendations...and they are the vehicles I know the most about.
With that being said Nissan makes some really nice mid size suv's (decent gas mileage too), that are really nice looking and not overly hard ride. The Kia Sorento is also a nice vehicle that gets a great gas mileage. The new grand cherokee's are like riding a barka lounger around town
.
Funny that you are asking this today. I too have a company car (and should have chosen a mini-van when I had the chance...but that's another story). Yesterday my forester was in the shop and I was given a Chevy Traverse as a rental. I am not a car person AT ALL but I LOVED this vehicle! It does have a third row but I am not sure I can say how easily it is accessed. I have driven a Forester, Liberty and Nitro and this is by far my favorite of those SUV's. It is incredibly comfortable and there is a ton of convenient storage in the front. The set-up is awesome! We too are in your situation and keep puting off a purchase of our own and recently test drove a Honda Pilot which I felt was really a rough ride.
Good Luck!
We have a Ford Explorer and we LOVE it! It rides smooth and quiet and it has a third row. You can seat up to 7 people. Both the middle and back row can fold completely flat in "cargo mode" and it looks like a pick up inside when you do- which is awesome for buying baby stuff or moving! It's got a lot of nice features but isn't a huge SUV. I would highly recommend it!
