PSA: Britax Chaperone

Last week, while on vacation, DH, DD, and I were in a car accident. We were rear ended pretty hard; thankfully, no one was hurt. I just wanted to put it out there that DD was riding in the Britax Chaperone and she didn't even move an inch! After all my complaining about how heavy and bulky this seat is, I couldn't be happier with it now. It kept her safe and as far as we know, there wasn't any damage done to the seat. The insurance adjustor is coming to take a look at it to make sure. From now on, I think  I may only be buying Britax.

  • I'm glad everyone is okay.

I think you still have to replace the seat after any accident (?) I may be making that up.

This is correct. An insurance adjuster has ZERO ability of telling if the structural integrity of the seat is compromised. Nobody can. Thats why they sadly have to be replaced every time. Glad you all were ok.

This. Britax has that "safe-cell" technology or whatever, that compresses in a crash. The seat needs to be replaced. The insurance should cover it.

  • We are definitely going to replace it; we're just waiting to see if the insurance will cover it or not. We're waiting to find out if the other driver admitted 100% fault which means coverage for anything shouldn't be much of an issue.

Since you were rear ended, it is 100% his fault.
