Hey fellow bumpers

what are some themes you will be using when your baby turns 1/themes you used when your baby turned 1? I'm curious to hear about their special day and would even love to see pics if possible!

DD's 1st birthday party is 4 weeks from today (yikes!). We are having a "Ladybug Picnic" at a local park. We'll serve sandwiches, potato salad, pasta salad, chips and cupcakes.

We are doing a simple balloon theme. I want to wait until LO is a little older to do themes like the zoo, fire trucks, monsters, etc. I think this is the invite we will use... I told myself I had to decide by Wednesday

We are doing an ice cream social theme. It's going to be at home with just our immediate families (about 20 people).

I'm going to do cupcakes in ice cream cones as the cake and then an ice cream buffet. For food, we are doing pulled pork sundaes (pulled pork, mashed potatoes, gravy/bbq layered in a clear plastic cup to look like an ice cream sundae).

We are doing Safari theme. Just decided on it. i went to Kenya 3 years ago and have some awesome pictures from the Masai Mara. So we're going to use some of those as invites (making them into postcards).

We've finally decided on Alice in Wonderland. Lots of awesome decorating ideas. And I really want to find an Alice dress or a Queen of Hearts dress for DD.

For my DS' first birthday, I did a polka dot theme. The invite said "Polka-dot, let's have some fun! Miles is turning One!".

I hung polka dot paper lantens from the ceiling and had all round food (fruit salad with grapes, blueberries and melons using a melon baller, round veggies tray, salami, cheese cut with small round cookie cutter and ritz platter, round sandwhiches, and then the caterpillar cake).

For my DD, I'm still tossing around ideas. I want to do something really girly/frilly but keep in line with an autumn-y theme. I'm thinking enchanted forest, maybe? Not sure.

For DS we did an Elmo theme with a cupcake cake shaped like Elmo's face. For DD I'm thinking maybe Abby from Sesame Street cause I was thinking fairies but DH isn't crazy about the fairy idea so we compromised with that. She has a bright colorful tutu and matching top to wear. We still have to get some leggings for it since her bday is in November.

Elmo and Sesame Street will be our theme. I purchased all of the Elmo and Sesame Street cricket cartriges that A.C. Moore has so that I can hand make all of the invites and some of the decorations. I am excited for his first bday.

"our little pumpkin is turning one, join us for some birthday fun" I will be doing pumpkin/Halloween/fall harvest type decorations. Cake will be a pumpkin. Candy corn, hay bails etc...

I'm probably the only person on the planet that doesn't really care about this birthday being a big deal. My family and friends get together every Saturday during football season anyway to watch Alabama football. Sooooo... DD is having a ladybug smash cake at halftime.

We're doing a Cowboy "Dude" Ranch party since we call him "Dude." It's going to be a BBQ at my parents. We're going to decorate with some hay bales and corn stalks (we live out in the country so not hard to find!). Then, we'll get some bandanas and cowboy hats from oriental trading. Since his birthday is Halloween we're instructing people to come dressed in their western clothes.

We are just doing dinner and a cake celebration the Wed night before Thanksgiving with my family.

Nothing big!

His 1 year photos are what I am "theme-ing" though. I got the Dr. Seuss diaper and am in the process of drawing out cake ideas.

Elmo/Sesame Street>. I was going to do Abby Cadabby since my DD's name is Abby, but she is so much more into Elmo right now, that I changed my mind. See my AW post from today (the bottom layer (blue)self destructed from the heat and humidity) for a cake pic. The treat bags included goldfish crackers and crayons as a homage to the Elmo's World theme song. lol
