Breastfeeding

I am so confused please I need advise

Okay so my little girl is 2 weeks today i have been ebf only and my left breats seems to get engorged alot faster than the right so usually I try to feed on the left first because I can feel the little milk ducts  more in the left then the right. What I am confused about is she feeds about 10 to 15 min on the left and like 5 on the right which I figure shes filling up on my left  but on my right she will unlatch like shes finished but 2 seconds later shes rooting for it again and so I give her the right breast again but shell latch on for a few sec than latch off and starts to get frustrated and starts crying. I am confused  what should I do.

  • I have heard that some babies are one sided.  I would keep offering, then pump that side to keep the good stuff coming-

  • In the beginning, I alternated offering sides -- so I'd offer right first, then the next time the left first. My LC said that can help prevent developing a preference....

Now, I always offer the left first, trying to get it to produce more since he latches more when he's the hungriest (sometimes it's just comfort sucking, but any stimulation helps). He still drains the right side, but the left has started producing a little more since doing this.

  • You should alternate which side you start on so your supply doesn't get out of whack.

  • If she truly prefers one side over the other, pump while she's latched. This will help you from becoming obviously lopsided. I unfortunately did not get a pump in time, and now when I'm engorged my left boob is huge compared to the other. I had to wait for a hospital rental to become available. I got tired of waiting and bought myself one. So, remember to pump while she's latched! Good Luck :)

  • I wasn't a pumper...just ebf. So when I started to get lop-sided I'd offer the weaker side first once in a while (so it would keep up production, and not keep signalling the "stud" breast to produce yet more). My guess is that LO is maybe frustrated that the milk doesn't come out as fast or prolific on the weaker side.

I also did the block-feeding...offering one side, one feeding. Then the next side the next feeding. It helped control engorgement, even out the puppies, and kept up supply in both.
