? for working moms

For those of you who have gone back to work......if you have to wake LO up to get to daycare/sitter on your work days, do they wake up that early every day after they get used to it?  Or do they sleep longer on the days off?

I'm only going to be working three days a week to start and only two of those days will be early days.  I just have this horrible feeling that she is going to get up that early every day and I'm never going to get to sleep to a "decent hour" (in my night owl brain).

Re: ? for working moms

  • I wake her up at 6:20 on daycare days ( M-TH)...on other days she sleeps umtil 7:15 and then naps around 9. Not a big difference but I am thankful for every hour!

  • On my work days he usually wakes me up 10 minutes before my alarm goes off...around 6:20am or so.  He eats at 7pm, cradle at 7:30p sleeps til 3 or 3:30a then up at 6:20.  He nurses and then I get ready for work and he plays on his play mat. I leave for work at 7:30 and daddy takes over. (DH is in grad school 2 days a week).

It's amazing how fast babies adapt...I've only been back to work less than a week and he has done great.

I'm sure once you do it, she'll adjust just fine!

Edit: forgot to mention...I tried to push his bedtime back a bit on the nights before my day off so I can sleep in a bit and I had very little success.  BUT at least he put himself on a schedule and is pretty predictable now!

  • On work days I get DS up at 5:50.  On non-work days (weekends), he stays in his crib until about 8:00!  (He gets a little fussy around 4am but goes back to sleep - BTW that was happening before I went back to work).  As far as naps/bedtimes - not much has changed.  It took some adjustment for him at DC but he's napping okay now & going to bed for us just fine.

    Good luck!

  • I forgot to mention that I do NOT feed him when I get him up on work days.  I change his diaper then take him to DC.  He usually eats around 7:30/8:00 @ DC.  I think that contributes to him sleeping a little longer on weekends.  Also, I take him to DC in his pajamas.  They get him dressed at DC.

Thanks.  I'll probably try that when I take him to my mom's.

  • DD STTN until 5 every day, on my days off she will fall back asleep after her morning bottle and wake up at 8:30.  On days where she goes to the sitter, she will go back to sleep and I try to place her carefully in her car seat at 6:30.  Her happiest is in the morning so no matter what happens she is smiling and cooing.

  • I've been back to work for 2 weeks, and this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday Dee slept until 8am - which is not like her at all! So we think she's sleeping in since she has to wake up early during the week. FWIW I'm only back part time (3 days) but I keep her on the same schedule throughout the week - wake-up at 6:15am. Weekends she can sleep as long as she likes.
