rice cereal question

so we recently started feeding our LO rice cereal and he loves it.  is it possible to make it rather than buy the box kind?  do you just make regular rice then puree it?  what about making in bulk for a a few feedings, how do you store it, freezer?  feel free to flame away but to be honest, i'm a trainwreck in the kitchen.  i am slowly learning the basics but have only had success with no cook foods like bruchetta, guacamole, and hummus.

Re: rice cereal question

  • No flaming here. If you're not great in the kitchen, though, I'd stick to an organic rice cereal (We us happy babies enriched cereal) and instead of worrying about making the rice cereal, I'd focus on pureeing up fresh fruits and veggies. You can pretty easily mush up a banana with a fork or an avocado. Actually, a lot of people skip rice altogether these days.

This. I've made rice cereal and it's a pain because you have to do it in little batches. I suggest buying organic BROWN rice cereal if you want to use it, and make everything else. We only used it to mix things with to thicken them and did sweet potatoes thinned with breastmilk as a first food.

  • no flaming - that you're trying is what matters. we did BLW'ing (I like cooking, but didn't really do a lot extra for her), and hummus was an early favorite of DD.  you might give it a try when you feel ready.  (we didn't do rice cereal mostly because it's really just a processed starch way to get an iron vitamin in them.  blah.)

  • We just skipped rice and went straight to avocado.

  • I've tried to make it but it was a flop so we use Earth'sBest Organic Rice Cereal but LO prefers blended up puffed millet plus it is more nutritious. I blend it with formula/BM.
