Baby Vitamins = smelly, yuck mess

We bought the Ply-Vi-Sol (Enfamil brand) vitamin drops for our LO, based on our pediatrician's recommendation. Our daughter spits it right up...and, I don't blame here - they smell horrible. We have tried pinching her checks when we give it to her, but a bunch still comes back out.

How do you give your LO vitamins? Is there a different brand that your LO likes more?

  • Hmmm.. we're currently using the Enfamil brand, but I buy Tri-Vi-Sol, so maybe it's different.  It smells yummy and she loves them.  I would definitely recommend that you try a different brand, because I've found them all to be quite different in smell and flavor.

  • We used the Tr-Vi-Sol ones too. They smelled good, but I tasted them, and oh gawd they are gross, but DS never had a problem taking them. If you are pumping at all, you can add them to a bottle and try that way. GL!

  • The poly-vi-sol tastes nasty because it contains iron. Our pedi just recommended the tri-vi-sol, which Kyva loved taking. I'd ask if you can give that instead and just up your own iron intake if you're BFing. You may find this link helpful/encouraging too: https://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/vitamins/iron.html (sorry not clicky).

  • Right in Feb we started giving E the gummy kid vitamins from Costco. She seems to like them.

This is what we do. Since both kids are in daycare and I have to send bottles with, I just put the liquid vitamins in one of the bottles. I've always had to supplement with an extra bottle even at home though, so I'd do it that way too.

Would you be comfortable w/ giving your child a little bit of water mixed in w/ the vitamins in a bottle?

  • Thanks, Everyone! We'll switch to the Tri-Vi-Sol and see how that goes. I have been pumping a bit to build up for when I go back to work, and I can always try mixing a bit with breastmilk if we need to.

Thanks again! We have no idea we should try the Tri vitamin! :)
