Toddler Bed Update =)

So, I mentioned step 1 was removing the side of the crib and putting up the little rail. Just to see how he did without being contained.

Yesterdays nap was normal, he did sit up twice and look around but went back to sleep. Bedtime was normal too.....he slept from 7:30pm-7 am!!!! He had been waking up crying for 20 min or so for 2 weeks....last night he didn't! Coincidence, maybe.....but I will take it for the first night in the toddler bed!

He has not gotten out of bed at any point, even this morning I had to pick him up!

I don't give this kid enough credit....he is fine with change. Something he did NOT get from his mommy!

Re: Toddler Bed Update =)

  • Glad it went well! Eve did not get out of her big girl bed for MONTHS AND MONTHS AND MONTHS after she got it. She knew how to get in and out but she just didn't. She went through a phase a couple weeks ago where she was getting in and out all the time.. but she's stopped again.

I was ready for that....so so glad I have the video monitor with pan/zoom! I also put a door knob thing on the inside so he couldn't get out, but I will take that off once I know he won't wander. I hate trapping him in his room, but also don't want him wandering the house either.

I love Eve's bed, she is such a big girl! =)

  • We have a gate on the outside of Eve's door.. like you said, it stinks having to trap her in, but her room is basically right at the top of the stairs and I just couldn't risk it.. and its easier to have the gate for her room than the whole stairs, plus this keeps her out of the bathroom which is across the hall. I don't know when I'll feel comfortable taking it down.

  • That's great! I think you'll definitely see a change in his sleep if he thinks he has a little more "breathing room", even though it's essentially still a crib.

We were afraid that Ian would just get out of bed, but we still have to tell him that it's OK to get out of bed in the morning or after nap, and it's been over a year since we first converted his crib, then put him in a full size bed. It's one of those quirks that is cute and crazy at the same time.
