Need help with the back yard/ porch

Oisin likes to climb up on the railing here. It is dangerous. We need to put something there to keep him off of it. So help me, my first thought was chicken wire, but I do not want to do that.

Any suggestions?

Can you use one of those mesh guards they have for railings/banisters on stairs?

I'm thinking something mesh too. That way, it's not sharp at all if he falls on it/tries to climb.

I was thinking that too, but I'm not sure if it will be able to keep him from climbing it. Hmmm. Could you get some lattice and nail it on there? It's pretty cheap at home depot.

I am also thinking of lattice for that. It might be easy to climb even with the mesh because of the horizontal pieces.

Something like this? Maybe not the cheapest option, but looks fairly easy to install with minimal damage to the deck.
