With DD I had no problems pumping at work. Toward the end (after about 8
months), I would be short on total ounces for the day by an ounce or
two, but had such a huge stash it didn't matter.
I've only been
at work 3 days now, and the amount I'm pumping each time has already
gone down, down, down. For my afternoon pump, I'm only getting about 3
ounces total (he's taking a 5 ounce bottle). I'm already short on ounces
for the day by about 2 (making up for it by getting up around midnight
to work in an extra session). My left side has always been weaker than
my right, but now I'm only getting like an ounce out of it at a time.
I
know supplies take a hit when you get AF, and the stress of returning
to work, etc. is probably compounding that. And DD is fighting a cold, which I can feel myself fighting off as well.
But I need some
advice and/or reassurance that this will turn around. I nursed DD for
14 months. I'm not prepared not to breast feed DS.
(FWIW, my plan this weekend is to keep the kid on the boob and follow all nursing sessions with a quick 10-min pump to stimulate production. Any other ideas???)
Dear Bump: You suck.
Re: Pumping isn't going well. :-(
Oatmeal? I don't have any other tips, but lots of good pumping session dust!
I'm pretty sure Cheryl recommended dark beer over oatmeal when I asked her about upping my supply in the beginning. I think the main thing she suggested is doing the 10 min. pumping session after nursing for a long weekend. Others have sworn by the Mother's Milk Tea. Are you getting enough water and calories?

Definitely do some major nursing this weekend. Mine always takes a hit by Friday after a full week at work.
lactation cookies are yummy. Oatmeal, water, power pump, like Jennifer said. I've had a few pedi doc friends mention some nasty issues they've seen in babies (like bleeding issues) whose moms are taking fenugreek so I won't take that with the next baby. I resorted to domperidone and it's been great, supply-wise. I do partially blame it for my weight gain but I figure it's not permanent.
