Meeting other moms IRL

So I've met on 3 separate occasions other moms in the neighborhood on our stroller walks. I don't do them everyday but try to get out a few times per week. It's amazing how friendly people with kids can be...and helpful too. One of them invited me out so I've now gone out twice with these ladies. I think the first time there were like 9 of us, this time there were 12 (and only 4 of us went to both). I got to meet so many women with kids of all ages who live in this area and can tell me about where to go, what to do, schools, activities, etc. It made me think - do you meet anyone on your walks? Do you approach other moms? Any good (or bad) stories to share?

They totally made me want to extend my hand more often when I see other moms.

BTW, I was out from 7pm until 11pm last night!! So much fun.

Re: Meeting other moms IRL

  • We met a lady with a little boy a few months older than DD at the grocery store yesterday. The grandparents just started talking to us and we talked for like 10 mins and then parted ways. I didn't really know what to say "hey random lady I just met, wanna hang out sometime?", so I didn't say anything. It was pretty awkward.

Oh yes!! My first 2 run-ins were extremely awkward. I didn't know what to ask about, no idea what to say...the 3rd lady was so warm and welcoming and was like "let me take your number and give you mine" and then I called her to ask about a program at the Y.

I liked opening it with asking what they do to get out and about. She told me about the town pool, the neighborhood lake, the Moms of Wayne club, etc (I'm new to this area so I had no clue).

  • There is never anyone else out when we go for our walks. And the few people I have seen its always "HI" "Hello" "How are you" "Good, you?" Never stops, just keeps walking.

This for us too... :( Wish I met nice people while I was out and about.

  • I've been making mommy friends at Trader Joe's. But we don't exchange digits. we just kind of chat about how cute each others kids are.

  • 1st: JT's new pic is adorable, look at all that hair!

2nd: Awesome you got to go out for some girls night fun.

3rd: I have found that kids are either magnets for uber friendlyness or the side eye when they are being naughty :) For the most part friendly. I've met way more people here since my kiddos were born. I love setting up playdates to get to know other moms better. I randomly met a mom at a playcenter in the mall who invited me to be part of her book club with 5 other new moms.
