DD has been awake in her bed for long periods after we read to her, and she's up before 6am these days...her bedtime has always been about 7-7:30pm but I'm thinking she may need a later one now. She still naps in the afternoon, typically 2-3 hours.
Riley is almost 3 takes a 2 hour nap (if lucky) and goes to bed at 8:30 but will sometimes play in bed till 9. He wakes anywhere from 6 am to 7. His pedi said anywhere from 10-13 hours in 24 is right on track for 3yrs.
I'm a broken record but I'll put it here for ease. C sleeps about 11 hours in a 24 hour span. In an ideal world he is asleep at 8:30 and wakes at 7:30 and takes no nap. If he naps, it's usually 2 hours (lord help me if it is 3), and then he stays up until about 10 pm. On weekends the lovable wonderful child likes to wake up at 6 am for some ungodly reason. And then he's pooped by 2 pm and passes out. On school days, we have to wake him at 7:30 to get ready for school or he'll be late. He doesn't usually nap on school days. Occassionally he'll go to bed crazy early and we start praying he'll actually stay asleep all night or wake briefly and go right back to sleep. It's about a 50/50 chance that he'll sleep most of the night if he falls asleep after 5:30 pm. The other side is that he'll wake at 8 and be up for several hours.
For S, I think if she's still napping and you want her too, accepting that she's not going to fall right asleep like old times is a good idea. She's fine, you don't worry about it is a win win! If she's not protesting staying in there alone and awake, go for it. If you wouldn't mind more time with her, there likely isn't a huge harm in pushing her bedtime back a bit.
E is 2.5 but she goes to bed at 7pm. I expect that by February she will be going to bed around 7:30pm, no later than 8pm. She has to be up by 6:30am to get ready and fed for preschool.
Andrew hasn't napped since last summer and at first his bedtime was about 7, since it got lighter later he's been going down closer to 7:30-8 with some rare 7's. He had always been a consistent 6am wake up so we always pushed for an early bedtime All of a sudden in the last 6 + months he started sleeping 11 hours no matter what time he went down so it allowed us more flexiblity with his bedtime. He has phases where he'll start waking around 6 and then we push his bedtime back to more like 7.
How much awake time does she have between the end of nap and bedtime?
D naps still 2 hours most days. He is up around 7 and goes to bed at 7-8pm. Some days when we are out swimming or something he will go down closer to 9 pm and still gets up at 7.
JLK is close to 4. But she goes to bed around 730 and falls asleep around 8 or earlier. She doesnt usally nap anymore (1hour of quiet time in her room) Although she is sleeping on me now...SWOON! I wont let her sleep more than 45 so as to not screw up bedtime
Bedtime was 7:30 for forever and then it kept getting later and later, like 9:00. That was pretty much killing all of us. But, DD was going through the 'I'm not tireds!' and getting out of bed 9 million times. Then naps officially ended (sigh) and we are back to 8:00 pm at the latest. She sleeps until about 7:30 most mornings.
10 effin' pm. He won't fall asleep sooner. (that's w/ a 1-2 hr nap) We haven't experimented w/ no naps lately, but last time we tried a few months ago he was a total jerk (that's using a kind word), so we decided to keep the late bedtime and nap.
we're thinking there needs to be an adjustment at our house as well. Brooke used to do a 7p-7a with a 1.5-3 hour nap. Now the only way shes ready for bed at 730 is if she doesnt nap. So we've been doing a nap & an 8 or 830 bedtime. Seems to work better than wasting time taking her back to bed repeatedly from 730-830p.
We also try to do a lot more physical activity whenever we can to help tire her out. If she doesnt get ample time running/jumping/etc - she doesnt wind down & go to sleep as easily.
