For a variety of reasons, I assumed that there would be no workplace shower for me, and I made my peace with it months ago.
Today I was supposed to go to a 6-person meeting at 2:30 (in the biggest conference room we have, which should have tipped me off). Instead it was a surprise baby shower for me and the other pregnant woman in my office.
All told, DH and I came away with a huge shopping bag of gifts AND $300 in gift cards from my non-profit's 40-person office. I am in complete shock and so overwhelmed by their generosity. I was DUMBFOUNDED. I think I just repeated the word "Wow" over and over for about an hour.
I now understand why people start threads devoted to the generosity of their friends/family/colleagues. I just can't even believe it.
Oh, and PS - one of my colleagues tracked down DH to get our registry info, so DH was in on the whole thing! He is SNEAKY!

So cool. What a great surprise.

That is so great. My office "shower" was last week and it was soooo nice. I got a ton of things from the office and then individual presents from most co-workers. I work at a 10 person nonprofit, so I too was shocked!
Yeah! I mean, there was cake, and decorations, and helium balloons, and I just was so surprised that they went to all this trouble. It was really nice.

People LOVE themselves some babies!
That's amazing! How sweet of them!
DH's coworkers gave him a surprise shower when we were pregnant with DD. It was so cute to see those manly men do something like that! We got the most ridiculous and useless gifts but I still cried through the whole thing.
