We're suposed to fly to see my grandparents in November for Turkey Day! And it's about a 3 Hour Flight plus to and from the airport (an hour to and 2 1/2 back) - we were originally going to drive ... pretty much a day of travel comapared to driving.... (a 20+ hour drive).... thoughts on flying at 20 weeks??? Thats what I'll be....

Re: Anyone planning trips around the Holidays??

  • we were also planning to take a trip later and during the spring time but ill be full blown in spring. were just going to take our trip earlier. but i def. would not want to be in a car ride that long...thats crazy. too many potty trips. i dont think flying is bad unless your u in your last tri.??

  • Flying is fine up until around 36 weeks....and the only reason they say not to fly past that is because they don't want you going into labor during the flight.  We're taking a 12 hour road trip in december, when I'll be 24 weeks pregnant.  If I'm too uncomfortable we may decide to fly at the last minute, but I'm not too concerned.  I'll just need a few extra stops to stretch my legs and pee.  We love road trips.
  • We're going home for Christmas - I'll be 23 weeks. I don't think it's a big deal unless you're in your 3rd trimester and only then it's because they don't want you going into labor while you're in the air.

  • We're traveling about 6 hours for Thanksgiving and about 11 hours for Christmas. All by car. Whether it's car, plane or train, you just have to make sure to get up and walk around every couple of hours to get the blood moving again! My Dr. told me no flying after 35 weeks if at all possible.
  • I flew close to 30 weeks and it was fine. It was a 2-3 hour flight, then another hour.

  • yeah - we'll be flying back from europe to the us for christmas. i will be 7 months at the time. no big deal.
  • With DD we flew to HI and back, 9 hours each way, when I was 21-22 weeks.  My recommendations are to drink a ton of extra water and keep your feet up as much as possible to help prevent/relieve any swelling of your feet.  Also, get up and walk around every so often to help prevent blood clots in your legs since pregnancy increases your risk for clots.

  • I'm driving 700 miles for 3 days at Christmas to spend the holiday with my sister. She is due with #2 on 12/7 :)
  • i'm flying home for xmas (only and hour and a half flight), and i'll be around 25 weeks then. i hate flying in general, but i miss my family.

i want to go home for thanksgiving as well, but i would have to drive (well, ride) for 8+ hours to get home, so i may be scrapping that idea.
i'm sure an 8 hour car trip could easily turn into 9 or 10 with extra potty stops!

  • I flew at just past 7 weeks, will again at 16 weeks, and might right after Xmas at 30 weeks (we haven't decided yet)

  • Flying is fine until you get to the end of your pregnancy. I just had to take a 3 hour flight to go to my grandmas funeral, and I was miserable because I have been really sick, and already get motion sick on planes. But if you are 20 weeks, it would probably be a good time to fly. Hopefully you will be feeling pretty good at that time. Try to get up and move around as much as you can and stay hydrated.
