Update to my boss outing me

Well, I did call HR yesterday afternoon. She told me she would call me back once she followed up with my boss on the situation.

I got back to the office from lunch and was talking to one of my co-workers. My boss overheard part of the conversation on the way back to her office, so she knew what we were talking about. We happened to be talking about our weekend plans and I mentioned this friend of mine. As soon as my boss walked back into her office, she practically shouted out her door "oh, does she know you're pregnant?!" And then she proceeded to walk out of her office smirking and said "I guess everyone here knows now."

I'm just beyond words at this point. The HR lady hasn't called me back yet to let me know that she spoke to my boss yet.

The only thing that's holding me back from working this out directly with my boss is that I know she's just going to give me excuses for why people know. Oh, that person must have overheard me talking to someone else. Oh, this person must have told that person. I bet that she won't think she's done anything wrong. I guess this has happened to other co-workers as well. I had a couple of them approach me after hearing about my pregnancy from someone besides me. They all told me that when they went to our boss and told her they were pregnant, she would run to the first person she could find in the office and tell them.

I just really think that at this point, I'm going to call HR again and add on what happened today to my complaint. I just think it sucks that I can't have a conversation with my boss behind closed doors and expect that the information divulged would be confidential, especially with her agreeing not to say anything to anyone.

I am glad you are taking this up with HR and not your boss directly. I would definitely call them about today too. I hope she gets in trouble.

I think that she's always been like this, but I never really paid attention to it. I'm really wishing that I had because then I never would have told her until I was ready to tell all my co-workers. Too late to change that, but I shouldn't have had to worry about her spilling the beans to all my co-workers.

Wow! I would be so upset!

At my last job my boss was so evil that I was terrified to even discuss my pregnancy in the office. No one should have to deal with that kind of stress. I hope you can get this sorted out with HR GL!

Wow she sucks!! At least she didn't ask you if you were going to maybe loose one or is this going to be a viable pregnancy like my boss did! God people just suck!

Why did you tell your boss so early? I hear this all the time that someone told so and so and then everyone knew and the one with the news got all upset. Let this be a lesson, don't tell ANYONE if you aren't announcing it yet. I didn't tell my boss last time until I was three months pregnant and after I told our families. If it got out then, no biggie.
