This weekend is our last weekend of summer that's "unplanned". I'm kind of bored with our typical weekend routine, and want to do something fun and bigger than we would normally. I was suggesting some theme parks to DH (Sesame Place, Busch Gardens) but he doesn't seem keen on making those a day trip since they're so far. Anyone have experience with these or the other local parks? DS is 2 1/2 and short...def under 36".
Re: Talk to me about amusement parks
I would add Dutch Wonderland to your list. It's geared to the 10 and younger set. Sesame Place is a lot of fun. I went there as a kid and always had a blast. While I've never been, does the local six flags have a little kids area?
If you are just looking for rides, both the Prince William and Montgomery County Fairs will be open on Saturday - between the animals and rides and shows, there should be plenty fun for all.
I remember Sesame Place from when I was a kid too, and DS LOVES the characters. I saw the Dutch Wonderland link and it looks cute too, and right near Hershey Park as well.
I thought I saw that the Six Flags has a bunch of kids rides, so if anyone has any experience, I'd love to hear.
DH had suggested the county fairs, but the last time we tried any of those, there were only like 2 rides DS was tall enough to go on.
We were there last night, and DS (under 36") rode almost everything DD could. He just needed a parent riding with him, and we didn't have to use any tickets on him (maybe because he's under 2?). So don't rule it out if you think your DS would like it and your DH would prefer not to have an entire day devoted to an outing. FYI, I think it closes on Saturday.
The county fairs sound like a great idea for the weekend!
But if you're interested in Dutch Wonderland, we took our kids (1 and 2.5) there in June and had a good time. As PP said, the rides are geared toward smaller kids and they had plenty that we could all ride together (various boats, a train, a monorail, etc.). The lines were pretty short for most rides (with the exception of the cars and the flume we never really stood in line), which was nice.
Also, they have a picnic pavillion right outside the park if you want to bring a lunch and re-enter the park. We had a good time--DH actually wants to take the kids back next year, but I'm leaning toward Sesame Place to change it up.
I also heard good things about Hershey but have not been.
have fun!
We are going to Dutch Wonderland over labor day weekend. I've heard it's great for this age group.
What about a county fair? Lots of animals and rides for even little kids to enjoy. Prince William County Fair ends this weekend. DS did great there last year and he was under 36 inches.
ETA: Obviously I didn't read all of the PPs. Again, there were quite a few rides that DS could do last year at the fair. We had to ride with him, but there were even some he could do on his own.
