I don't have handprints for James, yet, and have been trying to find a kit to do this. I'm really upset with myself for not doing this sooner, since he's 3 months old now. They only did his feet at the hospital and I just wish I would have started looking right away (or asked if the hospital would do hands, too. Can you request that? Would be a good question for #2.).
I've been researching options for over a week. Ideally, I'd like inkless so there's truly no mess. The ones with ink pads, accding to Amazon reviews, are either dried up and not much use or hard to get off the child's skin and from under nails. This doesn't sound ideal since he's putting them in his mouth often now (though they do say it's non-toxic).
Has anyone found a good product? I want to be able to add the prints to our baby book and just have as a keepsake. TIA for any suggestions!
Re: Anyone use the inkless or no mess kits for baby hand/footprints?
I have no idea what you could do that wouldn't be messy. For DS, I just bought a non-toxic ink pad at the craft store. It wasn't too bad to clean up, but there were some extra smudges on the page I was putting his handprint on.
As far as doing it at the hospital, they told me that if I wanted hand prints, that I would have to do those myself because it is so hard with newborns because they have the reflex to close their hands. I just waited until about 3 months with DS, and it was still hard to get him to open his hands.
I was hoping to maybe use the "inkless" system where ink is contained between 2 sheets, but baby never touches it. I have seen it on ebay, but the sellers are not in the US. (Not sure why it's not available in the US, but I could pay the shipping.) Plus, it looks like it's made for feet, so I'm not sure if his hand would fit in the pre-inked space. There is "invisible" ink, which you still have to remove somehow. And then the non-toxic, baby-safe ink pads, which reviewers said were messy.
J is 3 months now and you are right about it being hard to open his hand for long.
I may end up doing it with just non-toxic ink, too. Thanks!

I used this website when Hudson was about 7 weeks old to get his hand and foot prints. It's not "no mess" per say - but I don't think it was too hard to wipe off like a regular ink pad would be. They also have cute keepsake name signs with info about the year they were born, etc. I got that as well

Thank you, Suzie! I came across that site a few days ago and couldn't find it, again. I had ordered a different product from another site, but just got a refund and found out it's indefinitely backordered from the manuf. :-p So, I just ordered from Birthday Keepsakes. I'll be happy to finally have some of his handprints!
Thanks!
