Diaper rash on neck?

LO appears to have a rash on his neck that I think may belike a diaper rash. I have been puttingvdesitin on it and keeping it dry as possible, but it still is not going away. It feels kinda dry to the touch so I am wondering if lotion ay help...but that seems like the opposite ofvwhat I should do if the problem is moisture in his neck foods. He has the same rash in one of his arm folds and one leg fold. Any advice on how to treat it?

Re: Diaper rash on neck?

  • Could be eczema.  Check with pediatrician to see if they can prescribe a cortizone cream.  This helped my DS's skin clear up dramatically!

  • DD had a rash on her neck kinda like where the carseat would rub when she's strapped in...pedi had us put aquaphor on it and it pretty much cleared it up within a few days.  Hard to tell since it's rubbed on every day...but not nearly as bad as before.

Do you bathe him daily? If it's in his neck chub, it's just from drool/spitup/other forms of moisture getting in there and not drying out. DD had it bad once - since then we've made sure to wash it every night and lift her head to wipe and dry it thoroughly a couple times a day and it hasn't come back. We didn't put anything on it because I felt it would've been counterproductive since what it needed was to be dry. Same goes for the leg rolls!

  • You should definitely stop diapering LOs neck!

  • I had a similar problem and the pedi told us to put OTC hydrocortisone cream on it.  Cleared it up quickly.

  • I'm lurking from the 9-12 boards and I had to reply! It sounds like a yeast infection - my LO has had it many times because her neck rolls stored moisture. Put vaseline on it, I'd swear by it! It keeps the moisture out!

  • wipe the neck down when you change diapers.  I also put lanolin on the neck after cleaning.  works wonders.

  • My LO has the same thing. We just put baby powder on it a few times a day. It really keeps it dry. My Pedi said it usually goes away when the weather gets a little cooler and DD doesn't sweat as much. It's just from the baby fat rolls I guess LOL.
  • I was thinking it might be from tags on my DD's clothes.  I've definitely noticed it is worse if her clothes have a tag that looks like it could be scratchy.
