Another Cervical Length Question

Yesterday during my cervical check I saw the ultrasound tech take 3 measurements - one was 3.20cm, one was 3.18cm, and one was 2.89cm. Afterwards she raved about how great my cervix looked, said it was long and closed, and said if the Dr. asked I could tell her it was 3.20cm.

I had an appt. w/ my OB afterwards and I didn't get into details w/ her, just told her the u/s tech said it was fine. I assume my OB will look at the films and I know the Dr. on call there does too, but I'm not sure whether the u/s tech took pics of all 3 measurements or just one...and I don't know whether she was just re-measuring b/c she made a mistake or what the story was.

Do you think I should call and bring this to my Dr.'s attention - it's the 2.89cm measurement that has me concerned.

Moving the probe around gives different measurements...they always give a few different measurements on my checks before deciding on the number and that is my MFM doing it. Did she also press on your abdomen to see if there was any funneling? I wouldn't be concerned about it-they know what they are doing.

She did not press on my abdomen. I called the nurse and told her the story and she said the u/s tech might have to take a few measurments before getting it and that she documented 3.2cm and they were fine w/ that. I still feel uncomfortable about the one 2.89cm measurement though...

Anything over 2.5 cm is considered great. The measurements change depending on where they measure it. If your cervix is not open or funneling, then there is no concern. I am having twins and they stopped checking my cervix at 34 weeks, some girls stop getting cervical checks with multiples even earlier. If the doctor sees no reason for concern, then you shouldn't either.

At my MFM appt two weeks ago the Dr said she was concerned that my cervical length had gone from 4 cm to 3 cm and that 3 was fine it was only the change that concerned her. She advised me to stay off my feet as much as possible. The next week my OB gave me a copy of the u/s report and there are varying measurements on it - 2.7, 2.9 and 3. My OB said she wasn't concerned at all. I had another u/s today and they said it was the same and they were thrilled. All that to say...I wouldn't worry at this point. Are they measuring it regularly? If so, they have time to catch it before things get too bad.

Ok thanks...so I guess even if the measurement were considered 2.89 vs. 3.20 then they probably wouldn't do anything differently? I asked my OB (all the references to my OB in here are to an MFM since my OB is an MFM) if I needed to keep coming for cervical checks and she said no. She said just go to L&D if my syptoms (BH contractions) change. The cervical length checks were at my request to begin w/ b/c of all the contractions.
