It's not bad. I've had two. For the first one, the tech had me insert the wand myself. For my second one, the tech did everything. It can feel a little uncomfortable when they move it around, but really it's nothing to worry about.
It really isn't that bad. Definitely pee before you go in, that helps. Plus, you'll be so busy watching the screen to see your little peanut that you won't even notice!
Salt-I never got to do that! That's neat that they let you do that!

I didn't hold the wand myself, I have had probably 15 internal u/s. You will be fine. It is a little awkward at first, but it's really no big deal.

It's nothing! A pap is much worse in my opinion. Besides, you are so distracted looking at the screen and seeing your baby you sorta forget any weirdness.

I had the pleasure of having both a transvag U/S and a pap in the same visit and the pap was definitely more uncomfortable. The u/s was pretty quick and I wasn't really paying attention to what she was doing since I was looking at the screen.
It's not too big of a deal. At first it's a little weird. My first doctor made me hold the wand but my new doctor did it all herself. I hated putting the wand in myself. It's not uncomfortable at all I don't think.

I didn't get to hold the wand...I feel jipped.
But, Seriously OP, no big deal. The only part that was uncomfortable for me is when she was looking for my ovaries and for whatever reason had an issue finding them. It involved a lot of digging around. Other than that - piece of cake. GL! You'll be so distracted by the baby on the screen you won't even notice!

See I am cool with that. But I'm also a control freak, so there's that too.
I've had 2, one at 8 weeks and one at 11 weeks. It seemed like it might be kind of awkward, especially since I had a pap before at my first one, but it was really NBD. They put a condom and lube on the wand and it's not that big, though it's rather long. It was uncomfortable on the first because she was really pushing it around in there but for my second I think my uterus was higher up and it didn't reach as well. I also got a regular "belly" u/s on my 2nd visit and that was uncomfortable too because she had to really push down on my belly down by my pubic bone to get to my uterus.

I didnt' the last time b/c i thought I didn't need to (and I had just 20 minutes prior... and at this point I always feel like I have to pee), and it was kinda uncomfortable (and the tech kept noting how I had a full bladder...maybe it was difficult for her too).
No worse than an annual exam. Heck, I'd say easier even. Yeah, it's a bit weird the first time but you get over that quickly as you're staring at the screen.

Definitely not a big deal. I was nervous about it too, but it's far less uncomfortable than a pap. My O.B. held the wand, I didn't get to, but I'm okay with that. It was a little uncomfortable at first, but as soon as I started watching the screen, I didn't even notice.

Re: Prepare me for the trans-vaginal ultrasound
It's a GIRL!
Really? I have had five and the tech held it every time.
It's really nothing with nothing. They lube up the probe and it's not uncomfortable. Waaaay less uncomfortable than a pap or something like that.
I've never held the wand myself, either.

You get to hold the wand? hmm... I haven't ever gotten that option. I guess each doctor is different.
Ha well then I feel special. I've had two from two different places and I got to hold it both times.
same here . I get monitored for my ovary all the time w the thing and its become NBD
